Mr. Nutz Physical Release: Strictly Limited and Atari Bring Mr. Nutz and Hoppin' Mad to SNES and Mega Drive in Early 2027

Strictly Limited Games and Atari have announced premium physical editions of Mr. Nutz and its long-lost sequel Mr. Nutz: Hoppin' Mad, with pre-orders opening today and both titles slated for release at the start of 2027.

The packs will be produced in PAL and NTSC formats and priced at €49.99.

Background and legacy

Mr. Nutz was designed by Philippe Dessoly and Pierre Adane for Ocean and first released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993.

A Mega Drive/Genesis version followed in 1994, and the character later appeared on Nintendo handheld hardware with releases for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance.

A separate title, Mr. Nutz: Hoppin' Mad, launched on the Amiga in 1994 and was intended to reach the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1995 under the working name Mr. Nutz 2 — that Mega Drive port never materialized at the time.

What the new releases deliver

Strictly Limited Games and Atari stated that both the original Mr. Nutz and Mr. Nutz: Hoppin' Mad will receive premium physical relaunches for SNES and Mega Drive/Genesis hardware.

In journalistic terms, the companies confirmed that the scope of the announcement includes standalone physical cartridges produced for both platforms and formatted for PAL and NTSC regions.

Notably, the forthcoming Strictly Limited edition will mark Mr. Nutz: Hoppin' Mad’s debut on Sega’s Mega Drive/Genesis hardware, delivering the Amiga-era title to Sega console collectors for the first time.

The partners set the retail price for each physical edition at €49.99, and said pre-orders open immediately following the announcement.

Why this matters

The reissues reunite a 1990s platforming franchise with collectors and preservation-minded players on original hardware.

Designer credits to Philippe Dessoly and Pierre Adane underscore the releases’ connection to Ocean’s 16-bit era work, and the dual-format drop (PAL/NTSC) targets both European and North American retro markets.

Availability

According to the announcement from Strictly Limited and Atari, pre-orders are available now and both physical editions are scheduled to ship at the start of 2027.

Interested buyers should consult Strictly Limited’s storefront and Atari’s official channels for ordering details and region-specific information.
