Evercade Adds Mouse Support with Latest Firmware Update: Enhanced Controls for Select Games on Alpha and VS Consoles
In a move that bolsters its reputation as a versatile and innovative retro gaming platform, Blaze Entertainment has announced the introduction of mouse support for select Evercade systems through its latest firmware update.
This new feature, which is currently available in beta, allows owners of the Evercade Alpha, VS, and VS-R consoles to connect and utilize both wired and wireless USB mice, expanding the control options available for several classic game collections.
The Evercade family of systems, developed by Blaze Entertainment, has carved out a niche for itself with a focus on officially licensed retro game compilations.
Unlike handheld-focused models such as the Evercade EXP, these non-portable hardware variants now support mouse input, with the update rolling out via Evercade’s firmware channel.
Compatible Games and Collections
At launch, six games support the Evercade mouse feature:
- Z (The Bitmap Brothers Collection 2)
- Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (Broken Sword Collection)
- Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror (Broken Sword Collection)
- Future Wars (Delphine Software Collection 1)
- Operation Stealth (Delphine Software Collection 1)
- Arcade Pool (Team17 Collection 1)
In addition to standard mouse support, Blaze has introduced an experimental control system that allows the mouse to emulate paddle controls—a key aspect of certain Atari 2600 games.
This innovation provides a fresh way to experience classic titles, as players can now swipe the mouse left and right to simulate turning a paddle dial.
The following Atari games are currently compatible with the paddle emulation feature:
- Night Driver (Atari Collection 1)
- Steeplechase (Atari Collection 1), featuring up and down movement to adjust jump height
- Demons to Diamonds (Atari Collection 2)
- Street Racer (Atari Collection 2)
Evercade’s game information screens now indicate mouse and analogue control compatibility with new on-screen icons, ensuring players can easily identify which titles will benefit from the enhanced input.
How to Use Evercade Mouse Support
Players can connect a USB mouse to port two of the Evercade Alpha or Evercade VS/VS-R consoles.
On the VS/VS-R models, ports three and four are also supported.
Navigating menus and launching games still requires a standard controller plugged into port one.
On the Evercade Alpha, users can choose to use the main stick or a traditional controller.
Mouse speed options are configurable within the "Game" section of the console’s settings menu, providing further customization.
To revert to standard controls, users must exit their game, disconnect the mouse, and restart the game using only the controller.
According to Blaze Entertainment, "This feature is in BETA and will continue to receive improvements over subsequent firmware updates.
Support for additional games from currently available cartridges will be added at a later time, and new releases will have mouse support as standard where applicable." The update does not extend to Evercade EXP and EXP-R models, as these handhelds lack external controller support.
With mouse compatibility now available, Evercade continues to distinguish itself in the retro gaming market, offering new experiences for fans of classic titles and collections on the platform.
Stay tuned for future firmware updates as Blaze Entertainment expands mouse functionality to more games.
