Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Demand Surges in Japan as Multi-Language System Gains Popularity
As anticipation builds for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, Japanese consumers are turning their attention to the My Nintendo Store's pre-order lotteries.
Known for its immense popularity, Nintendo’s follow-up console is already breaking pre-order trends, with fans demonstrating a willingness to pay premium prices to secure their system at launch.
The handheld hybrid platform, poised to succeed the original Nintendo Switch, continues to dominate headlines thanks to strong demand and strategic pre-order systems.
On the opening day of the second Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order lottery in Japan, recent data revealed a significant uptick in interest for the Multi-Language System, which retails for 69,980 yen (approximately USD 490).
According to a survey conducted via social media, about 14% of initial applicants who had originally sought the Japanese-language system have shifted their preference to the Multi-Language System, despite its higher cost—20,000 yen (roughly USD 140) more than its Japanese-only counterpart.
This shift in consumer behavior is largely attributed to the perceived better odds of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 through the Multi-Language System lottery.
The estimated success rate for this edition during the first round of pre-orders was notably higher, reportedly falling between 54% and 91%.
In contrast, the odds for the standard Japanese-language edition and the exclusive Mario Kart World set lingered at a much lower 20% to 25% success rate.
An increasing willingness among dedicated Nintendo fans to pay extra for improved purchasing chances has become evident.
The considerable increase in Multi-Language System orders underscores how the platform’s core audience views the higher price point as justified, especially when it offers a better opportunity to secure a system on release day.
Nintendo’s strategic approach, including varied bundles and regional options, appears to be resonating well with engaged consumers.
Nintendo’s success in generating such fervent demand highlights its enduring influence in the gaming hardware market.
The Nintendo Switch platform has historically posted strong global sales milestones, establishing it as one of the company’s most successful systems to date.
The forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 looks set to build on this momentum, with pre-order activities at the My Nintendo Store Japan already demonstrating robust consumer interest.
Given Nintendo’s track record with hardware launches, industry watchers will be monitoring how these early trends translate into broader sales performance when the Nintendo Switch 2 eventually arrives on shelves.
As the pre-order process continues and further details emerge through channels such as Nintendo Direct and the eShop, expectations are high that the Nintendo Switch 2 will meet—and possibly surpass—the benchmarks set by its predecessor.
