Moonlighter 2 Announced for Nintendo Switch 2: New Dungeons, Expanded Shopkeeping, and 2024 Launch Window

Digital Sun, the acclaimed indie developer known for blending action RPG and shopkeeping mechanics, has officially announced Moonlighter 2 for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 platform.

The original Moonlighter, released in 2018, became a fan favorite thanks to its compelling mix of dungeon crawling and merchant management.

Now, the sequel is confirmed to bring its unique gameplay formula to Nintendo’s new hardware, with a planned launch later in 2024. Moonlighter 2 promises players a deeper experience, building on the strengths that made the original a breakout success.

Set in a beautifully crafted world, the game will offer an expanded array of dungeons to explore, each featuring challenging monsters, new environments, and treasures waiting to be discovered.

Off the battlefield, players can relax in enhanced peaceful settings and further develop their own storefronts, selling loot gathered from their many adventures.

This blend of action and management mechanics remains central to the experience, echoing the balance that captivated fans of the first game. In a recently released statement, Digital Sun expressed excitement for the project's progress.

The developers emphasized that Moonlighter 2 aims to expand both the core dungeon-crawling systems and the social aspects of the towns, shopkeeping, and in-game economy, saying the sequel was "crafted with the Moonlighter community in mind, featuring even more dungeons to conquer and a richer environment where players can relax and grow their in-game businesses.” Although an exact release date was not specified at the time of the announcement, Digital Sun has confirmed that Moonlighter 2 is on track to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 within 2024.

The game will become available digitally via the Nintendo eShop, aligning with Nintendo’s push for a robust and diverse game catalog on its new system.

As the Switch 2 is expected to deliver enhanced performance and graphical capabilities, fans can anticipate an even more immersive experience compared to the original title. The Moonlighter series has collectively sold over a million copies worldwide and remains a standout example of indie innovation on Nintendo platforms.

With support from both devoted fans and newcomers drawn to its accessible yet deep gameplay loop, Moonlighter 2 is positioned as a major addition to the Switch 2’s growing library.
