Description

Capcom's Q2 FY2025/26 financial report has given the gaming industry much to discuss, as a surprising sales trend emerged within the company's renowned Monster Hunter franchise.

Despite being four years old, Monster Hunter Rise continues to outperform the newly released Monster Hunter Wilds in software sales, demonstrating the enduring success of Capcom’s best-selling IP and its lasting appeal across a wide player base. According to Capcom's latest financial disclosure, Monster Hunter Wilds, the franchise’s most recent entry, achieved an impressive milestone with 10 million units sold during its launch weeks earlier this year—a record-breaking performance by any measure.

Yet, when examining the Digital Contents Unit Sales Rankings for the current fiscal year, the numbers tell a more nuanced story.

In the first half of FY2025/26, Monster Hunter Wilds delivered 637,000 units sold, but Monster Hunter Rise edged just ahead with 643,000 units during the same period. Breaking the data down further, the sales gap becomes even more pronounced in the second quarter.

Of Wilds' total 637,000 units, 477,000 were sold in Q1, leaving just 160,000 additional copies sold in Q2.

In comparison, Monster Hunter Rise garnered 254,000 unit sales during Q2, following its Q1 performance of 389,000 units.

While sales are slowing for both titles, Rise's sustained numbers highlight not only the game's widespread availability across platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PC, and others, but also the continued demand for its robust content library and ongoing community support. Other Capcom titles also featured prominently in the Q2 rankings.

Street Fighter 6 posted 547,000 sales, maintaining solid momentum, while Resident Evil Village topped the quarter with 643,000 units sold, even though it lags behind Devil May Cry 5 on a cumulative fiscal-year basis.

Notably, several of these high-performing titles—including Resident Evil VII and Resident Evil Village—are scheduled to launch on Nintendo's next-generation Switch 2 hardware, with releases confirmed for February 27.

This expanded platform support could reshape Capcom's aggregate unit sales in coming quarters and provide new opportunities for franchise growth. A representative from Capcom emphasized the importance of multi-platform availability and ongoing content offerings in driving long-term engagement, reiterating the company’s dedication to both established and emerging player communities. As Capcom looks to the future, the remarkable continued interest in Monster Hunter Rise, alongside the ambitious debut of Monster Hunter Wilds, speaks to the franchise's global footprint and Capcom's expertise in developing compelling, replayable experiences.

With the Nintendo Switch, upcoming Switch 2, and other platforms playing pivotal roles, the remainder of the fiscal year promises further developments in Capcom's sales landscape.
