Nintendo Switch 2 gets Middle-earth classics: What you need to know

Warner Bros.

Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions have brought Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition to Nintendo Switch 2.

Both launch trailers are live, and the titles are now available digitally on the Nintendo eShop, marking the first time these specific Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War editions have been released on a Nintendo platform.

What the releases include

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor — Game of the Year Edition

- Developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros.

Interactive Entertainment, Shadow of Mordor won more than 50 awards, including Game of the Year, Best Action/Adventure Game and Outstanding Innovation in Gaming.

The Game of the Year Edition packages the base game with all previously released content, including the “Lord of the Hunt” and “The Bright Lord” campaign expansions, the Guardians of the Flaming Eye exclusive Warband mission, and bonus warband missions, runes and skins.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War — Definitive Edition

- The sequel expands the world and adds the Sword of Dominion bonus weapon.

The Definitive Edition includes all downloadable content: “Desolation of Mordor” (play as Baranor), “Blade of Galadriel” (play as Eltariel), and the Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe Nemesis expansions.

This edition is optimized for offline play; online Conquests, Vendettas, Fight Pits, Chests and Training Orders are unavailable.

The Nemesis System and single-player focus

At the center of Shadow of Mordor is the Nemesis System, a procedural enemy hierarchy that creates unique rivalries and evolving foes tailored to each player’s campaign.

In Shadow of War, that system scales up to fortresses, larger battles and expanded storylines, including direct play opportunities as characters such as Celebrimbor, Baranor and Eltariel.

Availability and physical release

Both editions are currently available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2.

A physical release will follow through Limited Run Games, according to publisher announcements.

Trailer embeds accompany the digital releases on publisher channels.

Why this matters
