Nintendo Announces Metroid Prime Trilogy Artbook Release in Collaboration with Retro Studios

Nintendo has officially revealed the forthcoming release of a comprehensive artbook dedicated to the Metroid Prime Trilogy, developed in close partnership with Retro Studios.

Set to launch on October 28, 2025, the Metroid Prime Trilogy Artbook invites fans and industry professionals to explore an extensive collection of behind-the-scenes artwork, concept designs, and developer insights spanning the critically acclaimed trilogy.

The artbook aims to provide an authoritative look into the creative process behind one of Nintendo’s most iconic first-person adventure franchises. Produced in collaboration with Retro Studios—the Texas-based developer responsible for the original Metroid Prime trilogy and the recent Metroid Prime Remastered—the artbook features in-depth commentary from both the Retro team and series producer Kensuke Tanabe.

Fans eager for a preview can access a 29-page sampler now available through Nintendo’s official news portal. In the richly detailed commentary, producer Kensuke Tanabe sheds new light on development decisions made during Metroid Prime Remastered.

In a translated and clarified statement, Tanabe explained that Retro Studios initially suggested the creation of entirely new cutscenes for the remastered title.

He noted that the proposed prototype was particularly impressive and met high-quality standards.

However, Tanabe ultimately decided to remain faithful to the cutscenes from the original GameCube release, emphasizing that these were not simply cinematic flourishes but key to conveying essential gameplay information.

He praised Retro Studios’ professionalism in adhering to this vision, highlighting their meticulous attention to both narrative and gameplay relevance. Tanabe further elaborated that this close collaboration on Metroid Prime Remastered significantly strengthened the working relationship between Nintendo and Retro Studios.

This partnership, he revealed, was instrumental in the decision for Retro Studios to take the lead on the development of the much-anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Tanabe underscored that Metroid Prime Remastered represented a turning point, both for himself and for Retro Studios, solidifying mutual trust and creative synergy moving forward. The Metroid Prime Trilogy, originally launched on Nintendo GameCube and later re-released on the Wii, has consistently been celebrated for its atmospheric worldbuilding, innovative gameplay mechanics, and immersive storytelling.

With Metroid Prime Remastered’s successful release on the Nintendo Switch in 2023, anticipation for additional entries—and related projects—continues to run high among fans and industry watchers alike. To further engage the gaming community, Nintendo has made a substantial preview of the Metroid Prime Trilogy Artbook available, giving enthusiasts an early glimpse at exclusive artwork and developer commentaries.

The full release will add to the growing legacy of Metroid Prime on the Nintendo Switch and will likely appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers interested in the franchise’s celebrated design and development. The Metroid Prime Trilogy Artbook will be available for purchase through major retailers and the Nintendo eShop beginning October 28, 2025.
