Mario Kart Tour Shutdown: Nintendo Ends Mobile Service After 276M Downloads and $268.5M Lifetime Revenue

Nintendo has officially ended online service for Mario Kart Tour, its free-to-play mobile entry in the long-running Mario Kart franchise.

Launched on September 25, 2019, Mario Kart Tour was developed by Nintendo in partnership with mobile specialist DeNA and published for iOS and Android devices.

The title marked Nintendo’s continued push into mobile gaming alongside its core hardware line like the Nintendo Switch.

Market intelligence firm AppMagic — highlighted by Mobilegamer.biz — has shared lifetime performance estimates for Mario Kart Tour.

According to those figures, the game was downloaded more than 276 million times and generated an estimated $268.5 million in lifetime revenue.

AppMagic’s data indicates downloads peaked during the launch month and that in-app purchase revenue reached its single-month high in October 2019, the month after release.

The analytics firm also reported the game was earning roughly $650,000 per month around the time Nintendo announced the shutdown, with players in the United States accounting for approximately 39% of lifetime in-app purchase revenue.

Players who launch the app now are presented with an in-game notice stating that online service for Mario Kart Tour has officially ended and offering thanks to fans for their participation.

Nintendo additionally published a “final Mario Kart Tour report” on its social channels summarizing select player data and milestones.

In a company FAQ posted alongside the service closure, Nintendo stated it has no plans to release an offline version of Mario Kart Tour.

The decision to close Mario Kart Tour’s service brings to an end a nearly seven-year run for Nintendo’s mobile spin on the kart-racing series.

The title’s performance—measured in hundreds of millions of downloads and hundreds of millions in revenue—illustrates the commercial scale Nintendo reached in mobile markets while continuing to develop flagship experiences for platforms such as the Nintendo Switch.

For players and industry observers, Nintendo’s formal communications and AppMagic’s lifetime estimates provide a clear, verified record of Mario Kart Tour’s commercial footprint.

Nintendo’s FAQ remains the authoritative source for questions about access and future plans for the app.
