Nintendo Announces Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Compilation for Switch at 40th Anniversary Direct

During a landmark Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo officially launched the 40th anniversary celebrations for Super Mario by unveiling several significant announcements.

Chief among these was not only the reveal of the title for the highly anticipated next Mario movie but also the introduction of a brand new compilation: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 for Nintendo Switch. This compilation pack features both critically acclaimed entries in the beloved Galaxy sub-series—Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2—now unified for the first time on a single Nintendo Switch release.

The collection will be available in both physical and digital formats, providing fans new ways to experience these iconic platformers.

Nintendo has confirmed the Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 combo pack will launch on October 12, 2025. The announcement comes several years after the highly successful Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation, which briefly brought Super Mario Galaxy to the Nintendo Switch in 2020 alongside Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

However, Nintendo discontinued both digital and physical sales of 3D All-Stars in March 2021, effectively removing access to Galaxy's Switch version for new buyers.

By releasing a dedicated pack for Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2, Nintendo is giving fans and newcomers another opportunity to enjoy these celebrated titles on modern hardware. In a statement provided during the Nintendo Direct, a Nintendo spokesperson reiterated the company's commitment to preserving its legacy titles, emphasizing, “Our goal is to ensure that fans can experience the wonder and innovation of the Mario Galaxy series on the latest Nintendo hardware.” Super Mario Galaxy originally launched on the Wii in 2007, with its sequel following in 2010.

Both games are widely recognized for their inventive level design, gravity-defying mechanics, and cinematic orchestral soundtracks.

Collectively, the Galaxy games have sold millions of copies worldwide and have earned their reputation as some of the best-loved entries in the Super Mario franchise. Although the Nintendo Direct did not confirm the price for the new combo pack, excitement among longtime Mario enthusiasts is already high, as this release marks the first time Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be available on Nintendo Switch.
