Lunar Remastered Collection on Nintendo Switch: Working Designs Script Confirmed The eagerly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is making its way to the Nintendo Switch, giving fans of Game Arts’ legendary JRPG series a chance to re-experience classic storytelling and gameplay.

Since its original reveal, the collection has sparked intense interest within the JRPG community—not only for its updated visuals and new vocal performances, but also for its approach to the beloved localization by Working Designs that has defined the Western identity of Lunar: Silver Star and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue since their North American launches on the Sega CD and PlayStation in the 1990s and early 2000s. Lunar: Silver Star and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue have long been celebrated for their sharp writing, humor, and memorable characters, which set them apart in a genre often dominated by more serious narrative tones.

When GungHo Online Entertainment announced remasters for modern platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and eShop, one of the community's key concerns was whether the new releases would retain the famed Working Designs localization, known for its distinctively tongue-in-cheek '90s humor. This week, GungHo has provided clarity: the script in Lunar Remastered Collection is indeed based on the original Working Designs localization.

According to Alana Hagues, a reviewer currently evaluating the collection for Nintendo Life, the new scripts closely follow the language and characterizations that fans remember from the original Working Designs releases.

While the remaster features newly recorded voice performances, GungHo has aimed to keep these as true to the original Working Designs recordings as possible, ensuring continuity for longtime fans. Victor Ireland, founder of Working Designs, previously expressed an openness to collaborating for the remaster, highlighting that legal agreements preserve his company’s rights over certain elements of the voice work.

Ireland commented, via Time Extension, "There is a legal agreement with clear terms that specifically excluded the rights to the performances from the sale of the Lunar localization.

Game Arts knows this, GungHo knows this, and I know this.

I’m open to helping GungHo get the original performances in the remaster so the fans get the remastered version they have wanted for decades." Recently, voice actor Jenny Stigile, who performed in both Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, raised questions about the ownership of the original voice recordings.

Ireland, however, has refuted any doubt, reiterating that all relevant parties are aware of the legal status.

For now, the confirmed approach is the use of new voice recordings, created as authentic recreations of the original performances. With the Lunar Remastered Collection, GungHo and Game Arts are poised to introduce a new audience to one of the most charming JRPG experiences, while also reassuring veterans that the heart and humor of the Working Designs scripts will endure.

Look for Lunar Remastered Collection’s release on the Nintendo Switch eShop and other platforms, continuing the legacy of this beloved franchise into a new era.
