Red Dead Redemption 2, one of Rockstar Games’ most critically acclaimed titles and a benchmark in open-world game design, is reportedly being developed for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game, originally released in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, has set industry standards with its immersive narrative and expansive environments, garnering multiple Game of the Year awards and selling over 61 million copies as of 2024.
The potential arrival of Red Dead Redemption 2 on Nintendo’s next-generation console is a major development for both Rockstar Games and Nintendo fans.
The news comes via Reece Reilly—a prominent gaming interviewer recognized as Kiwi Talkz—who shared insights on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the game’s status.
According to Reilly, he has spoken directly with eight developers involved in the project who confirmed their participation in porting Red Dead Redemption 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
"Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed coming to Switch 2.
I've spoken to eight different developers who actually worked on the project, so there's no doubt it will launch when the time is right," Reilly stated confidently.
While rumors have circulated about the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 making its way to Nintendo hardware, neither Rockstar Games nor Nintendo has officially announced the port.
The repeated reports from various sources, however, strongly suggest ongoing development efforts to bring the blockbuster title to the new platform.
Historically, Rockstar Games has supported Nintendo with select releases, including the original Red Dead Redemption’s appearance on the Nintendo Switch eShop in 2023.
The Nintendo Switch 2—Nintendo’s highly anticipated successor to the original handheld-console hybrid—is expected to boost technical specifications, enabling more demanding titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 to run effectively.
The expanded hardware capabilities will likely offer Switch 2 owners a high-quality experience, further cementing the platform’s appeal to core gamers who crave both portability and performance.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s potential debut on Nintendo Switch 2 underscores Rockstar Games’ commitment to reaching broader audiences and leveraging the growing popularity of Nintendo’s hardware.
The move would mark another significant milestone in game development and cross-platform porting, strengthening the lineup of triple-A titles available on Nintendo systems.
As the gaming community awaits official confirmation, all eyes will remain on forthcoming Nintendo Direct presentations and potential Rockstar Games announcements regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo Switch 2.
Stay tuned for verified updates as more information emerges about this highly anticipated release.
