Amazon Game Studios Cancels King of Meat Release for Nintendo Switch and Shuts Down PC Servers

In a significant move for the gaming community, Amazon Game Studios has officially announced the discontinuation of "King of Meat," including the cancellation of its previously planned Nintendo Switch release.

The game, developed in collaboration with UK-based studio Glowmade, had originally launched for PC in late 2023, but will now see both its PC servers and planned console expansions brought to a halt. "King of Meat" was first revealed as an upcoming title for the Nintendo Switch with an anticipated 2024 release.

The brawler-style game, praised for its chaotic and creative gameplay, garnered initial attention from both Switch and PC gamers.

However, Amazon Game Studios has decided not to move forward with the project, citing challenges in building a sustainable player base. In a formal statement, Amazon Game Studios attributed the decision to end support for "King of Meat" to the game's inability to attract the audience the publisher had hoped for.

"Despite the creativity and innovation that Glowmade invested in King of Meat, the game has unfortunately not reached the level of community engagement we anticipated," a representative from Amazon explained.

"As a result, we have made the difficult decision to end our investment and close the servers on April 9, 2026." Players who purchased "King of Meat" on PC will receive full refunds through their respective platform providers in the coming weeks.

Amazon encourages the existing player community to enjoy all available content until the servers are deactivated.

The cancellation of the Nintendo Switch version means that gamers looking forward to experiencing "King of Meat" on Nintendo hardware will not have the opportunity to do so.

The title joins a list of projects affected by shifting strategies at Amazon Game Studios, as the company continues to evaluate its position in the competitive gaming marketplace.

Glowmade, recognized for its innovative approach to multiplayer action games, has been commended by Amazon for its passion and partnership throughout the development of "King of Meat." The publisher expressed gratitude to all players and the community that supported the game during its brief run. This announcement underscores the challenges of sustaining new intellectual properties in today's gaming landscape, particularly in the crowded action and party game segments.

Players have until April 9, 2026, to access and enjoy "King of Meat" on PC, after which all online services will be discontinued.

For updates, impacted players are encouraged to monitor official Amazon Game Studios channels and their digital storefronts, such as Steam and the eShop, for refund processing and further information.
