70's Robot Anime Geppy-X Remastered for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam Release in July 2026

Implicit Conversions has announced the eagerly awaited return of 70's Robot Anime Geppy-X, originally a PlayStation exclusive, to a new generation of hardware.

Recognized among enthusiasts for its reverent homage to classic 1970s super-robot anime such as Getter Robo, Grendizer, and Mazinger-Z, Geppy-X is making its worldwide debut outside Japan, launching on July 16, 2026.

The remastered edition will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam, marking a significant milestone for fans of vintage Japanese 2D shooters and classic anime culture. Developed by Tokyo-based studio Aroma, the original Geppy-X hit the PlayStation in 1999, celebrated for its distinctive 2D shmup action and an intense commitment to reproducing the visual and narrative flair of 1970s mecha anime.

The title became renowned among connoisseurs for spanning four discs in its initial release—a direct result of its impressive 8,000 unique animated video sequences.

For this new version, Implicit Conversions has expertly remastered all of these clips, ensuring they shine for modern displays and new audiences. In a statement, the publisher detailed, "The remaster process has elevated every aspect of Geppy-X’s beloved animated sequences.

These scenes—integral to the original game's storytelling and nostalgic value—have been carefully updated for today’s hardware." Adding to its legacy, 70's Robot Anime Geppy-X features an all-star Japanese voice cast.

Esteemed voice actors such as Akira Kamiya, Sho Hayami, Shuichi Ikeda, Ichiro Nagai, and Goro Naya contributed to the project, while the game’s music boasts contributions from Isao Sasaki, Akira Kushida, and Hironobu Kageyama—names synonymous with legendary anime theme songs. The 2026 remaster introduces full localization support for global audiences, along with a suite of modern enhancements.

Among these additions are beloved quality-of-life features including rewind capability, save states, achievement systems, and CRT-style visual filters, making the experience both authentic to its roots and approachable for contemporary players. With 70's Robot Anime Geppy-X now set for a global audience on the Nintendo Switch eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox platform, and Steam, this faithful restoration presents a unique opportunity for both dedicated fans and new players to discover one of gaming’s most ambitious anime tributes.

Its arrival signals a broader recognition of classic Japanese titles while offering a definitive way to experience one of the most visually and aurally distinctive 2D shmups from the late '90s, now reimagined for the modern era.
