Pokémon Pokopia Retains Lead in Japanese Boxed Sales as Switch 2 Outpaces Competitors

Japanese video game sales charts, compiled by industry tracker Famitsu, reveal that Pokémon Pokopia continues its impressive run, once again claiming the top spot in the country’s boxed game sales for the week ending March 29.

Despite a slight deceleration compared to the previous week, the latest Pokémon entry on Nintendo's Switch 2 platform remains a dominant force in Japan’s competitive market.

Pokémon Pokopia sold 48,772 units this past week, a noticeable drop from the last week’s 114,515 units, but still a considerable figure, pushing its cumulative sales to 821,687 units.

This ongoing strength illustrates the enduring popularity of the Pokémon franchise on Nintendo Switch hardware, particularly with the early success of the Switch 2.

Meanwhile, Capcom's Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection made its debut on the Nintendo Switch with a solid 18,238 units sold, securing second place in the charts.

Nintendo also saw positive numbers from the launch of Super Mario Bros.

Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup at Bellabel Park, which entered the rankings in third position with 10,158 copies sold.

Other notable performers this week include Mario Kart World for Switch 2, which continues its steady climb with 7,005 units (culminating in an impressive 2,880,343 units overall), Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and Crimson Desert on PlayStation 5, which added 5,265 units to its tally.

Notably, Winning Post 10 2026 made its first appearance on Switch, landing at number eight with 4,747 units, while also debuting on PlayStation 5 in tenth place with 4,540 units sold.

Switch 2 Leads Hardware Sales Amid Slight Dip

In hardware sales, the Switch 2 continues to outperform its rivals with 65,725 units sold for the week, bringing its lifetime sales closer to the five million mark (4,951,516 units).

While sales were slightly lower compared to previous weeks, Nintendo’s latest console is still far ahead of the nearest competitor.

The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition secured second place with 11,941 units sold, followed closely by the Nintendo Switch OLED and standard Switch, which moved 8,722 and 4,963 units, respectively.

The Switch Lite added 4,857 units to Nintendo's hardware tally.

On the PlayStation side, the PlayStation 5 Pro and the standard PlayStation 5 came in at 4,662 and 2,801 units sold this week.

Xbox platforms continue to trail in Japan, with the Xbox Series X Digital Edition selling 353 units and the Series S just 61 units.

Looking at all available SKUs, the three Switch models (Switch OLED, Switch, Switch Lite) collectively sold 18,542 units, while PlayStation’s three main SKUs (PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 Pro, PS5) combined for 19,404 units.

Despite a strong showing from Sony’s digital offering, Nintendo’s next-generation hardware remains Japan’s premier choice.

The resilience of Pokémon Pokopia and the strong debut of Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection showcase Nintendo’s ongoing strength in domestic software sales, while the Switch 2’s continued dominance reaffirms the platform’s leadership in Japan’s ever-evolving console landscape.
