Description

The latest Famitsu Japanese sales charts have been released for the week of April 7th to April 13th, 2024, providing a fresh snapshot of software and hardware trends in one of the most influential gaming markets.

In a post-Nintendo Direct landscape where industry attention is intensely focused on new hardware rumors, the Nintendo Switch platform continues to command the attention of Japanese consumers with robust sales figures for both games and consoles. Super Mario Party Jamboree remains at the pinnacle of the charts, further solidifying its status as a marquee title for the Nintendo Switch.

According to Famitsu data, the party game recorded an additional 7,041 physical units sold during the week, bringing its cumulative total to an impressive 1,264,884 copies sold since its initial release.

With its engaging mini-games and jump-in multiplayer features, Super Mario Party Jamboree continues to capitalize on its mainstream appeal, even as anticipation grows for future content additions. A notable new entry this week is Hakama Inc.’s Progress Orders, which made its chart debut at number eight by moving 3,349 copies in its launch week.

Demonstrating a solid start for a new IP, Progress Orders adds enriching diversity to the list of best-selling Switch titles.

Meanwhile, enduring favorites like Minecraft (5,208 units sold), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4,299 units sold), and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (3,550 units sold) continue to showcase the sustained momentum of Nintendo’s first-party franchises on the platform. PlayStation’s Monster Hunter Wilds stood out as the sole non-Nintendo Switch title within the top three, achieving 6,149 sales for the PS5 this past week and raising its lifetime Japanese sales to 793,546.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition also maintains a top-five position with 3,774 copies sold, illustrating the franchise’s ongoing appeal to dedicated fans. On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch family consistently outperforms competing platforms.

The OLED model led with 14,064 units sold, followed by Switch Lite at 8,409 and the standard Switch with 2,562 units.

Collectively, these SKUs represent 25,035 units for the week.

This performance keeps Nintendo at the head of Japan’s console race, with the three PS5 models accumulating a combined 8,866 units sold.

Xbox hardware, by comparison, remains a distant competitor in the region, with all models tallying fewer than 200 combined weekly sales. These figures not only underscore the Nintendo Switch’s enduring popularity in Japan but also demonstrate how strong software lineups and consistent hardware support continue to drive the platform’s success, even as the industry awaits details about Nintendo’s future hardware direction.
