Pokémon Pokopia has once again demonstrated its formidable appeal by leading the latest Japanese physical game charts, as reported by Famitsu.
Despite the introduction of several new titles to the market, The Pokémon Company’s latest release continued its reign in the top spot, while Nintendo’s Switch 2 also saw another strong week in hardware sales. In the sales tracking period from March 9th to March 15th, Pokémon Pokopia secured 117,029 additional units sold, bringing its cumulative total to an impressive 658,400 units on the Switch 2.
This stellar performance came as multiple new entries made their debut, including Capcom’s Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, which claimed second place on Switch 2 with 37,718 units sold.
The game also launched on PlayStation 5, ranking third with 17,188 units sold during the same period. Other notable new arrivals included Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, which managed to land in both fifth place on PS5 with 12,115 units and eighth place on Switch 2 with 6,436 units.
Not to be outdone, established titles such as Mario Kart World, Mario Tennis Fever, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons retained spots in the top ten, highlighting the continued strength of Nintendo’s evergreen catalog.
Resident Evil Requiem also maintained its position, coming in fourth on PlayStation 5 with weekly sales of 12,787 units and a lifetime sales figure of 191,619 units. A spokesperson for Famitsu summarized the week’s activity by noting, "While several new titles achieved strong debuts, Pokémon Pokopia and familiar Nintendo franchises continue to shape the sales charts, underscoring their strong presence in the Japanese market." Turning to the hardware sales, the Switch 2 continued to lead with 96,950 units sold, contributing to its lifetime total of 4,804,273.
The Switch OLED followed closely with 7,813 units, reflecting the enduring popularity of Nintendo's platforms.
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition edged ahead of the Switch OLED for the week, selling 8,014 units, while the standard Switch and Switch Lite contributed 7,314 and 4,814 units respectively.
Combined, legacy Switch models accounted for 19,941 sales, comfortably ahead of all PlayStation 5 models, which together sold 12,886 units. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S, along with the Xbox Series X Digital Edition, remained lower in the rankings, with lifetime sales figures still trailing significantly behind their Japanese competitors.
The PlayStation 4 also saw continued, though modest, sales in the region. The week’s charts reflect the continued dominance of Nintendo’s Switch hardware lineup—especially the newly released Switch 2—and the enduring popularity of franchises like Pokémon and Animal Crossing.
As the Japanese market remains a pivotal battleground for Nintendo, the company’s ability to blend strong new releases with evergreen hits ensures it stays at the forefront of both software and hardware sales in this critical region.
