Rock It Games Expands Nintendo Switch Library with Jaleco Sports: Goal and Bases Loaded Classics
Rock It Games has officially released two retro sports compilations—Jaleco Sports: Goal and Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded—on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
These collections revive iconic titles from gaming history, offering enhanced versions for both longtime fans and a new generation of players eager to experience NES and SNES classics.
The announcement marks a significant addition to the Switch’s ever-expanding library of retro releases and celebrates the legacies of Jaleco’s prominent sports series. Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded – A Baseball Pioneer Returns Originally developed by the renowned Japanese studio Tose and published by Jaleco, Bases Loaded first debuted on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988 in North America (following a 1987 launch in Japan).
The game quickly gained notoriety for its then-groundbreaking TV-style presentation, realistic player models, and immersive gameplay.
Featuring 12 distinct teams and a roster of 30 unique players per team, Bases Loaded set new standards for baseball simulations on home consoles and sold over one million copies in North America alone. Its success led to multiple sequels on the NES and Super Nintendo platforms.
Super Bases Loaded, released for the SNES in 1991, was one of the earliest sports titles available for the Super Nintendo in the U.S., pushing forward innovation with its center field TV perspective, skill ratings, customizable teams, and increased difficulty levels. Both NES and SNES versions included in Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded allow players to seamlessly switch between the platforms, utilize new save features, and engage in global monthly leaderboards.
A host of visual options like retro CRT Mode and original manuals in several languages enrich the authentic retro experience. Jaleco Sports: Goal – Soccer Simulation Ahead of Its Time Jaleco’s Goal! series made waves in the soccer gaming landscape with its attention to realism and strategic depth.
The series’ NES edition, Goal! (first released in 1988), allowed players to choose from 16 international and 8 U.S.
teams, competing for the World Cup in a tournament format.
Its refreshing shootout mode and diverse player statistics offered an innovative alternative before the rise of big-name franchises such as FIFA. Super Goal! for the SNES expanded on its predecessor with a larger selection of teams, new field perspectives, full-field radar, and improved player control options.
The collection also features regional variants, including Moero!! Pro Soccer (Japan 1988) and Super Cup Soccer (Japan 1992). Players can instantly swap between the NES and SNES versions, experiment with team formations, control goalkeepers directly, and engage in strategic gameplay modes like Exhibition, World Tournament, and Shootouts.
The modern features go further—saving progress at any time, using a rewind function, and comparing stats on monthly leaderboards are all available on Nintendo Switch. New Features for a Modern Generation Michael Devine, CEO of Rock It Games, emphasized the company’s commitment to more than simple emulation.
“Our Jaleco Sports series isn’t just a collection of classic games ported to today’s consoles.
We’re enhancing every release with new features, improvements, and an archive of historical extras from the original NES and SNES releases that fans will appreciate,” Devine stated in a press announcement. The addition of multilingual support, extensive online multiplayer capabilities through Remote Play, and original game manuals for each featured title contributes to the most comprehensive retro sports collection available on the Nintendo Switch today.
Players can relive the 8-bit and 16-bit eras or discover them anew, thanks to the passion-driven curation of Rock It Games. Jaleco Sports: Goal and Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded are now available for digital download from the Nintendo Switch eShop.
