JALECOlle Famicom Edition Brings Saiyūki World, Magic John, and Pizza Pop! to Nintendo Switch

City Connection continues its celebration of classic retro gaming with the announcement of three additional Jaleco titles for the Nintendo Switch.

As revealed on both City Connection’s official website and social channels, Saiyūki World, Magic John, and Pizza Pop! are set to join the growing roster of the JALECOlle Famicom Edition series on the Nintendo eShop.

While the publisher has yet to confirm official release dates for these titles, anticipation is running high among fans of classic platformers and action RPGs. Each of the forthcoming releases is notable for its unique place in the Famicom legacy.

Saiyūki World, first launched in 1988 as a Japan-exclusive title, merges action-adventure RPG elements with the epic narrative of the 16th-century Chinese classic Journey to the West.

Developed by Westone—famed for their work on Wonder Boy in Monster Land—the game puts players in the role of Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King.

Gamers must defeat the formidable Ox Demon King and restore order to the ancient city of Chang'an, utilizing equipment upgrades, health boosts, and new weaponry earned through boss encounters. Magic John, released in 1990 and developed by Aicom, takes a different approach with its dynamic platforming mechanics.

International players may recognize it under the localized title, Totally Rad.

The protagonist, John (renamed Jake outside Japan), wields a selection of transformative magical spells in his journey to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend from monstrous foes.

The game is praised for its inventive gameplay, allowing players to access new abilities by morphing into various forms—a hallmark feature that sets it apart from contemporaries. Rounding out the trio is Pizza Pop! from 1992, a charming platformer created by Arc System Works.

The lighthearted story follows an industrious pizza delivery boy as he navigates increasingly bizarre and perilous levels to earn enough money for a special engagement ring.

Like the other JALECOlle titles, Pizza Pop! gained a cult following for its quirky premise and tight controls, cementing its status as a standout in Jaleco’s catalogue. Speaking on the announcement, City Connection emphasized its commitment to preserving classic Japanese Famicom titles for a global audience via the Nintendo Switch platform.

The publisher continues to serve nostalgia-driven players while introducing a new generation to the history of retro gaming through digital releases on the Nintendo eShop.
