Description

Nintendo has showcased a new chapter in its collaboration with third-party developers via its recently released Creator's Voice video.

The latest entry in this series focuses on the hotly anticipated Borderlands 4, which is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2.

This initiative underscores Nintendo’s commitment to spotlighting major releases and offering direct insights from leading figures in game development. Borderlands 4, developed by Gearbox Software, continues the acclaimed looter-shooter legacy established by the Borderlands series.

The franchise is widely recognized for its distinctive blend of cooperative gameplay, dark humor, and cel-shaded graphics.

The developers, including Gearbox President Randy Pitchford and Director Randy Varnell, used the Creator's Voice platform to share their enthusiasm for Nintendo’s upcoming hardware and how it has positively shaped their development approach. Speaking about the Nintendo Switch 2, Pitchford expressed that, traditionally, shipping a Borderlands game to a Nintendo platform would require extensive porting efforts.

However, with Borderlands 4, Gearbox is developing the game natively for the Switch 2.

Pitchford noted that players will immediately notice how the console’s cooperative features, including seamless connectivity for sharing and playing with friends, are a natural fit for the Borderlands experience.

He described the platform as an 'ideal match' for the game’s unique style and gameplay requirements. Further elaborating on the hardware, Pitchford emphasized the impressive power and compact design of the Nintendo Switch 2.

He remarked that the development process has been a joy, saying the system enables their team to push boundaries with graphics and deliver a memorable experience without compromise.

Paraphrasing his statement, Gearbox feels genuinely empowered by Nintendo’s new console—as opposed to working against technical limitations, the studio feels freed to make the best version of Borderlands 4 possible. Randy Varnell added that being able to develop on bleeding-edge Nintendo technology reinvigorates their creative process and allows them to realize their vision for the next major Borderlands installment. While Borderlands 4 does not yet have a fixed release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, it is officially slated for launch later this year.

This installment’s arrival marks another significant milestone in Nintendo’s ongoing success in attracting blockbuster franchises to its hardware platforms, reinforcing the Nintendo Switch 2’s position as a welcoming environment for ambitious new releases. As the game approaches launch, Borderlands fans and Switch owners alike can anticipate a cooperative experience that makes full use of the Switch 2’s features, backed by Gearbox Software’s proven development pedigree.
