Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 — Infinity Ward Reports Smooth Development

Infinity Ward says work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo's upcoming hybrid console has been progressing without major issues, with the studio now concentrating on optimisation and performance ahead of the game's scheduled release.

In an interview with VGC, Infinity Ward studio head Jack O’Hara described the Nintendo Switch 2 port as having been straightforward in early stages.

O’Hara told reporters the team obtained the hardware, got the build running quickly, and has since shifted to tuning performance and optimisation.

He also characterised the integration process as “smooth” and “seamless,” noting there were no significant problems to report during initial development.

Modern Warfare 4 is developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.

The title is due to launch on 23 October 2026, with the developer confirming that the Nintendo version is currently scheduled to arrive on the same day as other platform releases.

Cross-play and cross-progression support have also been confirmed for the game, allowing players on different platforms to play together and carry progress across systems.

O’Hara additionally spoke about play testing, saying that internal sessions pitting Switch 2 players against other platforms had been enjoyable and productive.

He highlighted his own history working on Nintendo platforms during previous Call of Duty generations, and described it as exciting to return to a Nintendo console for a major instalment in the franchise.

The announcement follows Nintendo's ongoing development of a successor to the Nintendo Switch, commonly referred to as Switch 2, which is being positioned as a next-generation hybrid platform.

Infinity Ward’s early access to the hardware and its report of a stable development process will be watched closely by the industry as publishers prepare full-scale multiplatform launches.

With less than a year until Modern Warfare 4’s confirmed 23 October 2026 release, Infinity Ward’s stated focus on optimisation and performance signals the team is moving from basic compatibility to final tuning.

Players and retailers will be looking for more technical details, platform-specific features, and confirmation of the Nintendo version’s performance as the launch window approaches.
