Nihon Falcom and South Korean developer-publisher Neowiz have signed an agreement to bring The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch to PC and consoles globally, according to reporting from Gematsu.
The move marks a formal step toward making one of Falcom’s early, historically significant RPGs available beyond Japan after decades of platform-specific releases.
Originally released in 1994 for the NEC PC-9801, The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch is the first entry in Falcom’s Gagharv Trilogy and the third game in the broader Legend of Heroes chronology (following 1989’s Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes and 1992’s Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes II).
The title follows the pilgrimage of Jurio and his childhood friend Chris across the land of Tirasweel as they follow the trail of a figure known as the White Witch, unfolding into an expansive, story-driven adventure underscored by Falcom’s signature musical compositions.
After its debut on the PC-9801, the game was later ported to the Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation, and PC.
A 2006 PSP release, published by Bandai Namco, provided the first official localization but drew criticism at the time for a subpar translation.
Earlier in 2024, D4 Enterprise released the original PC-9801 version on Nintendo Switch as part of its EGGCONSOLE initiative; that release was limited to Japanese language support.
As part of Falcom’s 40th anniversary activities in 2021, Dengeki Online surveyed Japanese players about which Falcom titles they would like to see on modern hardware.
The poll results showed strong interest in a rerelease of the Gagharv Trilogy, with many respondents expressing a desire for all three games to be bundled for current-generation platforms.
