Genki's 'Switch 2' Accessory Prototypes Draw Legal Attention at CES 2025 At the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, accessory maker Genki made headlines after unveiling its line of prototype accessories designed for the highly anticipated successor to Nintendo Switch, widely referred to as 'Switch 2.' Founded in 2017, Genki has established a name for itself with innovative Nintendo Switch peripherals, including the Genki Dock and Genki Audio.

Known for its community-driven approach to product design, Genki’s latest showcase added further intrigue to ongoing industry speculation about Nintendo's next-generation console. During CES, Genki displayed a series of animated renderings and physical mockups of its upcoming Switch 2 accessories.

A dedicated page on the company’s website featured animated videos demonstrating new accessory designs.

Images released by German outlet Netzwelt highlighted a replica version of the Switch 2 console, complete with Joy-Con controllers that incorporate a newly positioned extra button on the right controller.

According to reports, attendees at CES were permitted to handle the replica unit to “get a feel” for what a next-gen Nintendo handheld might be like, echoing details seen in prior industry leaks.

Genki’s representatives reportedly suggested that these accessories could be ready for release as early as April 2025. However, the company’s actions at CES prompted a notable response from Nintendo.

According to French journalist Julien Tellouck, Genki was approached by Nintendo’s legal representatives during the event regarding their Switch 2 mockups and accessory displays.

Tellouck relayed that Genki had not signed any paperwork or entered into a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Nintendo, thus maintaining a degree of legal separation from the Japanese gaming giant.

"Genki representatives explained that while Nintendo’s lawyers were in contact, the company had no formal confidentiality agreements in place.

Thus, Genki remains unbound by any direct obligations to Nintendo regarding these accessories," Tellouck reported. Amid scrutiny over the authenticity of its prototypes, Genki clarified its process with Japanese publication GameSpark.

The accessory maker retracted earlier suggestions that it had direct access to the Switch 2 hardware, stating that its current products and displays were based solely on publicly available leaks and not on a functional device.

“Comments made by Genki personnel originally led some to believe they had handled a real Nintendo Switch 2, but subsequent interviews made clear that all prototypes were created from leaked information, not official hardware,” summarized GameSpark. This clarification comes at a critical juncture for both companies.

Nintendo has confirmed it will announce details about the Switch successor within the current fiscal year, ending March 2025.

The global gaming community remains on edge for official news, as third-party manufacturers like Genki fuel anticipation with speculative prototyping.

Until an official Nintendo Direct reveals the next generation of hardware, developments such as Genki’s CES display demonstrate both the challenges and excitement of innovating on the cutting edge of the gaming industry. As further updates surface regarding Genki’s products or Nintendo’s roadmap for Switch 2, the gaming industry will be watching closely for verified details.
