Intellivision Amico, the crowdfunded gaming console that has experienced multiple production delays since its initial campaign in 2020, has taken a significant new step to reach players and seek essential funding.
The company has released the Amico Home app for smartphones, turning supported Android and iOS devices into virtual Amico consoles.
This move aims to appeal to a broader audience and create new revenue opportunities as Intellivision navigates ongoing hardware manufacturing challenges.
The Amico Home app, already available to download as a public beta on Android, offers users immediate access to classic titles such as Astrosmash and Missile Command.
Two additional games, Shark! Shark! and Side Swipers, are slated for rollout in the coming months.
Users can connect their smartphones to compatible TVs, allowing for a living-room gaming experience reminiscent of the original Amico vision.
Another companion app transforms additional smart devices into Amico controllers for local multiplayer sessions.
Intellivision CEO Phil Adam emphasized in an official company statement that financial constraints have delayed mass production of the physical Amico console.
Adam explained, "We are committed to moving Intellivision forward, step by step, until we can fully realize our vision for the Amico console.
The launch of Amico Home strengthens our potential to attract new investment or to eventually fund console manufacturing through sales of our digital games."
For early supporters who pre-ordered the console or purchased limited collector's boxed editions, Intellivision ensures continued value.
Pre-order customers can verify their deposits on the official website to receive exclusive download codes for console pack-in games as they become available via Amico Home for Android.
Similarly, boxed edition owners may register their products to access corresponding digital content, with assurances that the physical editions will still support installations on the future Amico hardware.
To further unify the Amico experience, Intellivision is also introducing Amico Club, a new platform for users to manage their gaming profiles and unlock unique content, special offers, and community features.
According to Adam, Amico Home is designed to allow "hundreds of millions of people worldwide to easily transform their smartphones into local-multiplayer gaming systems," enhancing accessibility and laying groundwork for future growth.
Additionally, Intellivision has confirmed it will make the Amico Game API for Unity available to independent and third-party developers, encouraging further innovation in the spirit of local multiplayer gaming.
With these developments, Intellivision demonstrates its dedication to delivering affordable, family-oriented entertainment, even as work continues to secure the funding necessary for full console production.
The Amico Home app not only expands the reach of classic and new games, but also reaffirms Intellivision's evolving commitment to its community and the broader gaming market.
