Intellivision Amico Box Image Featuring Nintendo Characters Appears on UK Retailer Listing

The Intellivision Amico has resurfaced in online retail listings — not because of a renewed launch, but because one UK store posted box art that conspicuously features Nintendo characters.

The Amico, a console project from Intellivision Entertainment first announced in 2018 and led publicly by Tommy Tallarico, has endured repeated delays and widespread skepticism from industry observers.

The latest controversy centers on promotional imagery rather than a formal release update.

The incident was first highlighted on social media by account Super Jimtendo, which pointed out that The Game Collection — a UK-based video game retailer — used a product image of Amico packaging that includes Nintendo-owned characters such as Luigi, Wario and Diddy Kong.

Those characters are widely associated with Nintendo platforms including the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo's first-party lineup.

When approached on social channels about the artwork, The Game Collection denied creating the image themselves and told followers they had not designed the box art.

In other words, the retailer said it did not produce the artwork it had listed.

The store also told reporters the image had been distributed to them as an official asset but could not confirm whether placing a pre-order at that point would result in receiving a console.

A reverse-image search turned up a Reddit thread that traced the image back to an online portfolio previously associated with an Intellivision employee.

On Reddit, a user noted the image appeared in a website portfolio and suggested it could be an early prototype render used internally.

The Reddit post also criticized the apparent use of third-party intellectual property in renders and promotional materials.

This appearance of Nintendo characters on Amico packaging does not indicate any partnership or endorsement from Nintendo.

Nintendo has not promoted or endorsed the Amico via Nintendo Direct presentations or the Nintendo eShop, and no official announcement from Nintendo links the company to the Amico project.

At this stage, the retail listing appears to be a case of questionable artwork sourcing rather than evidence of a revived launch.

The Amico project remains a subject of controversy and uncertainty, and retailers listing a product do not constitute a verified release date or distribution guarantee.
