Nintendo and Velan Studios are preparing to bring the N64 classic Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars) back to life on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The remake is scheduled to launch on June 25, 2026, and a playable demo is available now on the Switch 2 eShop for players who want an early look at the updated experience.
A new promotional poster underlines Nintendo’s marketing push in the run-up to launch.
The movie-inspired artwork depicts the Great Fox airship drifting past an ominous red planet, favoring a cinematic, atmospheric mood over explosive action.
The poster also lists the core Star Fox team — Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad and Peppy Hare — and includes a “Nintendo Presents” credit that echoes classic film billing.
The remake, developed by Velan Studios in collaboration with Nintendo, is being presented as a faithful revival of the N64 original.
According to published materials from Nintendo, the project aims to reproduce the look and feel of Star Fox 64 while adding modern visual and technical enhancements.
With the June 25, 2026 release date set, Nintendo’s communications emphasize that the launch window is imminent and primary promotional activity will continue this month.
Players can try the title now via the Switch 2 eShop demo, which gives a hands-on preview of the remake’s flight combat and updated presentation.
The demo is the earliest official build made available to the public ahead of the full release.
Nintendo has also confirmed another high-profile N64-era return for 2026: a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
At this time, Nintendo has not specified whether Ocarina of Time will be a strictly faithful remake or a more ambitious reimagining; the company has said it will provide further details in future announcements.
As launch approaches, coverage will focus on hands-on impressions of the Switch 2 demo, final technical specifications, and any post-launch content plans.
For Nintendo and Velan Studios, the Star Fox remake represents a major moment for reviving a seminal franchise on the company’s next-generation hardware.
