Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle PC release features soundtrack by Hitoshi Sakimoto

Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle, the new RPG created by former Vanillaware artist Yoshio Nishimura, has launched on PC via Steam.

Nishimura—who directed the project and handled planning, scenario writing and graphics—has confirmed the involvement of veteran composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, whose career includes notable soundtracks for Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII and the founding of the Basiscape music studio in 2002.

In an interview with RPG Site, Nishimura explained that Sakimoto was his top choice from the planning stage and that he reached out as full production began.

He said that, despite prior professional interactions while at Vanillaware, he felt nervous contacting Sakimoto for this personal creative collaboration, but that Sakimoto's calm manner made the conversation easier.

Nishimura described his reaction when he first heard Sakimoto's score for the game, saying the music moved him profoundly and that he felt an almost transcendental joy on hearing the finished tracks.

He added with a touch of humor that he was merely exaggerating when he claimed he might have been "ready to die happy," noting he still has more to accomplish.

Sakimoto's involvement links Veritas Tales to a lineage of high-profile game scores; the composer is widely known for his work on titles such as Radiant Silvergun, Gradius V and Valkyria Chronicles, and his Basiscape studio has a long history of collaborating with independent and mid-sized developers.

Following the Steam launch, Nishimura told RPG Site he is actively considering expanding Veritas Tales to consoles.

While no official console release date has been announced, platform expansion—potentially including Nintendo Switch—remains under consideration.
