The latest charts underline the staying power of major franchises and showcase robust consumer interest in new hardware, reinforcing the country’s position as a key battleground for industry titans. Developed by Koei Tecmo, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment makes a striking debut at No.1, shifting 73,183 physical copies during its release week.

The title represents the newest entry in the long-running Warriors series, which blends large-scale action combat with popular Nintendo universes.

Supported by strong launch performance, the game signals continued enthusiasm for both the franchise and collaborations between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo. The chart’s top performers include a mix of fresh releases and juggernaut mainstays.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A, developed by The Pokemon Company, sustained vigorous sales across both legacy Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2, selling 54,904 and 29,662 units respectively for each platform.

Reflecting steadfast engagement, combined lifetime sales for the title have surpassed 1.9 million units. Other notable highlights from the week include Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2, maintaining a robust 54,413 units sold and totaling over 2 million in lifetime sales.

Square Enix’s Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake also posted significant figures across multiple platforms, with 32,682 units sold on the Nintendo Switch and 13,011 on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing their cumulative sales for the remake to over 450,000 copies between versions and platforms. Nintendo’s dominance in software extends to beloved franchises, such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Donkey Kong Bananza, which continue to enjoy steady sales long after their initial launches.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, in particular, boasts a staggering lifetime total of over 8.2 million units sold in Japan alone, underscoring the enduring appeal of the series. On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch 2 led the Japanese market this week, moving 90,410 units and bringing its total installed base to an impressive 2,642,256 units.

The Switch OLED Model and Switch Lite retained solid positions, while PlayStation 5 and its variants, along with Xbox Series systems, trailed behind.

These numbers underscore Nintendo’s multi-platform strategy and ongoing hardware innovation as key drivers for their dominance in the Japanese video game landscape. The latest sales report, released ahead of the detailed ranking for places 11 to 30, not only highlights the enduring appeal of flagship Nintendo properties but also underscores the company’s prowess in hardware sales.
