Hulu App Discontinued on Nintendo Switch: Support Ends February 2026

Nintendo has confirmed that the Hulu app is being removed from the Nintendo Switch platform, marking the end of the popular streaming service’s presence on the handheld console.

This move is part of a broader initiative from Disney, Hulu’s parent company, to phase out standalone Hulu applications across multiple devices and consolidate their streaming services. Nintendo began notifying users in June 2024 that the Hulu app is no longer available for download on the Nintendo eShop.

In an official statement, the company clarified that existing users who previously installed the app will continue to receive support until February 5, 2026.

After this date, the Hulu app on Nintendo Switch will cease functioning, rendering it inaccessible to all users regardless of prior downloads. This decision reflects Disney’s strategy to merge Hulu and Disney+ under a unified platform, offering subscribers an integrated streaming experience.

The standalone Hulu app has been systematically removed from various platforms—not just limited to the Nintendo Switch.

The consolidation aims to streamline content offerings and simplify the user experience for streaming customers. The removal of Hulu follows a similar trend seen with other media applications on the Nintendo Switch.

Twitch, for example, was launched on the console in 2021, but its support was discontinued after just a few years.

Currently, YouTube and Crunchyroll are the main available video streaming apps on the console, with Netflix and Disney+ notably absent from the Switch’s media app lineup. As of now, no mainstream media applications have been introduced on the Nintendo Switch 2.

It remains to be seen if this will change as Nintendo prepares for the platform’s next generation, but for the time being, the Switch’s media ecosystem is limited to select services. Nintendo Switch, launched in March 2017, has carved out a unique place in both gaming and multimedia consumption.

However, the recent removal of Hulu and Twitch highlights shifting priorities among developers and content providers regarding app support for Nintendo’s hardware. Consumers looking to access Hulu content on Nintendo hardware will need to transition to alternative platforms or utilize the new, integrated Disney+ offering on supported smart devices.
