IO Interactive has marked a significant milestone for Hitman: World of Assassination as the acclaimed stealth series reaches its fifth anniversary.
Originally released as Hitman 3 in January 2021, the title was rebranded as Hitman: World of Assassination in 2023 and remains a staple among stealth-action aficionados, available across nearly a dozen platforms.
To commemorate the game’s fifth anniversary, IO Interactive has officially announced that Hitman: World of Assassination will receive full cross-progression functionality across all supported platforms.
This major update ensures that players can transfer their game progress freely, eliminating platform boundaries for an uninterrupted gameplay experience. In a statement on its website, IO Interactive emphasized the importance of continuity for fans who have invested years in the World of Assassination trilogy.
The developer highlighted, “Five years ago, we launched Hitman 3 as the final installment of our trilogy.
It was important that our players be able to carry over their existing progression, and now, with this update, that vision is fully realized.” Beginning February 3, 2026, cross-progression will launch on platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch (Cloud Version), Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Store, and iOS.
With this feature, players can seamlessly maintain their experience points, player level, challenge progress, location mastery, inventory items, achievements or trophies, Freelancer progression, and overall campaign status regardless of their preferred platform. Notably, certain content restrictions will still apply: downloadable content (DLC) and exclusive missions will only be accessible if owned on the corresponding platform.
As IO Interactive explained, “To access specific locations, missions, or DLC items on another platform, players must have purchased that content on the respective platform.
Unlocks and rewards tied to DLC will not automatically carry over if the content isn’t owned elsewhere.” This approach ensures alignment with industry standards for cross-progression and respects platform-specific licensing agreements. Hitman: World of Assassination continues to enjoy robust support on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 via cloud streaming, offering high-fidelity gameplay that wasn’t possible on traditional hardware.
The game’s persistent updates and new features like cross-progression underscore IO Interactive’s commitment to its dedicated community three years after its original release. As the World of Assassination series celebrates this anniversary milestone, expanding cross-progression cements its status as one of the most accessible and player-friendly franchises in modern gaming.
Players can look forward to enhanced flexibility and freedom, allowing them to experience Hitman seamlessly across their favorite platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and its successors.
