Sega and DC Comics Expand Partnership with Sonic the Hedgehog Crossover Comic Series Debuting in March 2025
In a highly anticipated move that is set to excite comic book enthusiasts and Sonic fans alike, Sega and DC Comics have officially disclosed more details about their ambitious monthly crossover comic series.
This unique collaboration, which was first teased in September 2024, will transport Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends into the legendary DC Universe, offering fresh takes on beloved characters and stories.
The partnership promises not only comics, but a range of additional merchandise and crossover projects throughout its duration.
The new series, launching in March 2025, will be written by the acclaimed Ian Flynn, best known for his extensive work on Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series.
The dynamic illustrations are set to be crafted by Adam Bryce Thomas, whose artistry is celebrated among fans of previous Sonic comic runs.
According to the official announcement, each issue will showcase Sonic characters adopting the personas of DC’s most iconic heroes — with standouts such as Shadow transforming into Batman, Sonic donning the mantle of The Flash, Silver as Green Lantern, Amy taking the role of Wonder Woman, Knuckles appearing as Superman, and Tails stepping into the shoes of Cyborg.
Sega has shared key concept art for the crossover series, highlighting the bold visual style and imaginative character redesigns fans can look forward to in this ambitious project.
Both Flynn and Thomas are regarded within the comic community for their ability to capture character dynamics and deliver compelling narratives, making their combined talents a promising choice for this high-profile crossover.
Alongside the comic series, Sega and DC Comics are collaborating on a broader range of merchandise, further extending the reach of this creative partnership.
Official statements from both companies have emphasized a commitment to honoring the legacy of both Sonic and DC’s superhero roster, suggesting fans can expect additional announcements in the coming months regarding related projects and collectibles.
This collaboration coincides with other prominent milestones for both brands.
Notably, DC celebrated Batman’s 85th anniversary in September 2024, marked by a short video — described as a "partnership" — that playfully connects the legacy of the dark knight with Sega’s Blue Blur.
Simultaneously, Sega is preparing for the launch of Sonic X Shadow Generations, the latest entry in the Sonic franchise, which will release globally on Nintendo Switch and other major platforms on October 24, 2024.
Early impressions from media hands-on sessions have praised the new installment for its faithful homage to classic Sonic titles, with Shadow the Hedgehog’s resurgence described as a "love letter to Sonic Adventure 2."
Industry watchers and longtime fans will no doubt be monitoring the rollout of the Sonic-DC crossover comics, as well as the forthcoming video game release, for further signs of creative synergy and continued success across both entertainment mediums.
