In a recent interview conducted by IGN, Vince Zampella—Head of Respawn and Group General Manager for EA Studios—offered valuable insights into Electronic Arts’ evolving relationship with Nintendo.
While much of the discussion centered on the future direction of the Battlefield franchise, the conversation quickly turned to EA’s perspective on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware, often referred to by industry watchers as the Nintendo Switch 2.
EA has a rich history of collaboration with leading hardware platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Microsoft’s Xbox, and Sony’s PlayStation.
Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, Nintendo has sold over 125 million units worldwide, solidifying its position as one of the best-selling consoles in history.
The platform’s popularity and robust eShop marketplace have made it a significant consideration for game publishers and developers alike.
Although official details about the successor to the Nintendo Switch have not yet been announced, Zampella underscored the importance of Nintendo to EA’s broader business strategy.
He stated that Nintendo, along with Microsoft and Sony, are not only valued partners but also critical to the company’s global operations and success.
“Nintendo has been a great partner to us at EA and Respawn—they are important to our business across the board,” Zampella told IGN.
He went on to highlight his appreciation for the existing Switch platform, calling out both its impact and the positive collaboration between the two companies.
When pressed about the possibility of the next Battlefield game launching on the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, Zampella made it clear that he could not comment on unannounced hardware.
“Because [the Switch successor] hasn’t been officially revealed yet, I can’t provide specifics,” he explained.
However, he left the door open, noting that EA sees ‘absolutely’ the value in expanding their partnerships and that there is a definite possibility for future releases on new Nintendo hardware when it becomes a reality.
While no concrete announcements regarding the Battlefield franchise or other EA properties launching on the next Nintendo console were made, Zampella’s remarks reaffirmed the ongoing strength of the Nintendo-EA partnership.
The collaborative history between the two companies suggests further opportunities as Nintendo looks to its next hardware generation.
For now, fans of both EA’s catalog and Nintendo platforms can look to the future with optimism, anticipating new possibilities that could arrive with the eventual debut of the Nintendo Switch successor.
