Description

Hamster Corporation, a notable name in retro game preservation and distribution, has announced the arrival of 'Super World Court' for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, expanding its celebrated Arcade Archives lineup.

The title is set to launch on both platforms on May 29, 2024, joining two other Namco classics featured as part of 'Namco Month.' Originally developed by Namco and released in arcades in 1993, Super World Court stands as a unique four-player tennis experience built for the Namco NA-1 arcade hardware—the same platform powering titles such as Exvania, Emeraldia, and Cosmo Gang The Puzzle.

Serving as the direct sequel to the 1988 arcade game Pro Tennis: World Court, Super World Court retains the competitive spirit and fast-paced action of its predecessor, while introducing new characters and whimsical charm. Super World Court is notable for its engaging singles and doubles tournaments, offering a diverse selection of playable characters.

While players can choose from a roster of conventional human athletes, the game spices up the court with a memorable cast of eccentric characters, including a quick-footed cat, an energetic frog-like creature named MMM, and a robot known as Tins.

Enhancing Namco’s tradition of inter-game references, Pac-Man also appears in a cameo role during matches, delighting longtime fans of the company's games. During a recent livestream, Hamster Corporation detailed its commitment to faithfully bringing these arcade classics to modern audiences via the Arcade Archives series.

According to company representatives, the decision to include Super World Court aligns with their goal of preserving arcade history and maintaining accessibility for both veteran players and newcomers.

While Hamster has not yet shared preview footage of this specific reissue, they reassured fans that the Switch and PS4 versions will replicate the arcade original’s gameplay and features. Super World Court’s May 29 release will be available digitally through the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store, continuing Hamster Corporation’s mission to deliver classic arcade experiences to home consoles.

With its multiplayer capabilities and nostalgic appeal, Super World Court is poised to attract both fans of vintage Namco titles and a new generation of tennis game enthusiasts. For industry observers and consumers alike, the return of Super World Court underscores the enduring popularity of Namco’s arcade catalog and highlights Hamster Corporation’s significant role in the ongoing wave of retro game preservation on platforms like the Nintendo Switch and PS4.
