Go! Go! Kokopolo to Be Delisted from DSiWare: Limited Release Confirmed as Sequel Develops for Nintendo 3DS In notable news for fans of classic DSiWare titles, the acclaimed action-puzzle game Go! Go! Kokopolo is set to be removed from both the Nintendo DSiWare and eShop storefronts on August 31.

Developed by Keith Webb under Tanukii Studios Ltd and originally published in collaboration with Room 4 Games, Go! Go! Kokopolo first arrived on DSiWare in 2011, garnering a cult following thanks to its unique "chase 'em up" gameplay and whimsical presentation.

As availability on the digital platforms comes to a close, the title is poised to become a sought-after limited release exclusive, marking the end of an era for DSi gamers. Keith Webb, the creator behind Tanukii Studios, has clarified the reasoning behind this decision.

Although Webb retains the full rights to the Kokopolo franchise, publishing was facilitated by Room 4 Games—an entity that established a UK branch specifically to work with Nintendo for the European and North American eShop releases.

Webb explains that after three years of dwindling sales, it became increasingly impractical for Room 4 Games to sustain its UK operations solely for what had become sporadic revenue.

The costs, specifically company insurance fees, ultimately outweighed the minimal profits from ongoing digital sales. Webb stated that the publisher consulted with him about closing their UK business and removing Go! Go! Kokopolo from the digital market, focusing their efforts on their Hungarian operations instead.

He agreed it would be apt to take the game off the stores on the three-year anniversary of its release, ensuring long-time fans had adequate notice to purchase the game before it became unavailable.

Notifications were sent to several gaming outlets to give fans a final opportunity to secure a copy. Importantly, Nintendo of Europe assured Webb that any customers who had previously purchased Go! Go! Kokopolo would continue to retain redownload rights.

That means if players ever lose their digital copy, they can recover it at no additional cost, reducing concerns for legacy owners.

However, Webb noted some ambiguity regarding regional delisting specifics, advising North American users to monitor eShop notifications in the days leading up to removal since the official messaging could differ between territories. Webb reflected positively on the game's transition to a limited edition status, remarking that it was 'quite nice' for this version to achieve a collectible reputation in the digital marketplace, and expressed hope that players enjoyed the challenge and fun it provided. Looking forward, fans can anticipate the upcoming sequel, Kokopolo 3D – Space Recipe For Disaster, currently in development for the Nintendo 3DS.

Webb confirmed the project is approximately sixty percent complete, with new artwork, levels, bosses, and endings being created to deliver a fresh experience distinct from the original DSiWare release.

Circle Entertainment is set to publish Kokopolo 3D, supporting a new lower target price point estimated around $4, making the sequel more accessible to players than its predecessor. As Go! Go! Kokopolo takes its final bow on DSiWare, the transition to a rare digital exclusive highlights the importance of video game preservation in the rapidly evolving Nintendo ecosystem.

Meanwhile, the next chapter in the Kokopolo series is actively taking shape for the Nintendo 3DS, ensuring the quirky, high-energy gameplay lives on for both new and returning fans.
