Description

Limited Run Games has officially announced the highly anticipated release date for the GEX Trilogy.

This collection brings back one of the most beloved and eccentric platforming franchises in video game history, making its debut on modern hardware including the Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam), and additional consoles on June 16, 2025.

The remastered trilogy offers both digital and multiple collectible physical editions, highlighting the series’ cult status and longstanding fan demand. GEX Trilogy bundles together the original 2D platformer, GEX, alongside its two acclaimed 3D sequels: GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko.

All three titles are remastered using Limited Run Games' proprietary Carbon Engine, ensuring enhanced visuals and quality-of-life upgrades while preserving the humor and style that made the series a ’90s favorite. The trilogy’s release is complemented by several distinctive physical editions, each packed with exclusive memorabilia for collectors and long-time GEX fans.

The Standard Edition includes the game on disc or cartridge, an official case, cover, booklet, and a Steam key for the PC version.

The Classic Edition builds on this by adding a SteelBook case, a double-sided poster, a soundtrack selection CD, and a retro-inspired box.

The most premium offering, the Tail Time Edition, swaps the selection CD for the full soundtrack, and adds a 36-inch inflatable Gex Doll, a 7-inch Gex statue, Gex trading cards, a remote-shaped pin, and a collector’s box featuring artwork from renowned illustrator Yoshitaka Amano. In a recent press statement, Limited Run Games emphasized their commitment to preserving gaming history and delighting fans with premium releases.

Company representatives noted that the GEX Trilogy is designed not only for nostalgia but also to introduce a new generation to the series' unique blend of pop culture references and platforming challenges. Originally developed in the 1990s, the GEX series starred the wisecracking gecko—voiced by comedian Dana Gould—who battles his way through the surreal Media Dimension.

The first game, GEX, impressed with hundreds of witty one-liners and hand-animated backgrounds, while GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko expanded the series into dynamic 3D worlds filled with inventive level design, disguises, and even appearances by personalities such as Baywatch's Marlice Andrada. With the June 2025 launch, GEX Trilogy finds new life on current platforms like Nintendo Switch, offering contemporary gamers and retro fans alike the chance to experience all the wisecracks, platforming action, and irreverent humor that the franchise is known for.

For those interested in the physical editions, Limited Run Games has confirmed that preorders and additional details on the collectible bundles will be available later in the year through their official channels and participating retailers. As the release approaches, be sure to check the Nintendo eShop and other digital storefronts for GEX Trilogy, and stay tuned for more updates on launch events and developer interviews.

Fans and newcomers can look forward to a nostalgically charged return of everyone's favorite channel-surfing gecko this summer.
