Description

Limited Run Games has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Gex Trilogy, confirming that the beloved platforming gecko will return to modern audiences on Nintendo Switch and other major consoles on June 16, 2025.

This collection brings together all three classic Gex titles—Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko—remastered with a suite of quality of life updates, making it one of the year's most notable retro revivals for Nintendo Switch and platforming fans alike. In line with their reputation for unique special releases, Limited Run Games has unveiled two physical collector’s editions for the Gex Trilogy.

The standout is the 'Tail Time Edition', retailing at $199.99.

This deluxe bundle is headlined by an eye-catching 36-inch inflatable Gex, a playful nod to the mascot’s distinctive character.

The package also includes several premium collectibles for fans and collectors. A major highlight of the Tail Time Edition is the inclusion of exclusive art from legendary Final Fantasy illustrator Yoshitaka Amano.

The artist lends his signature style to the Gex Trilogy Collector’s Box, marking an unexpected but welcome collaboration.

As described by Limited Run Games, the box art elevates the package with a unique blend of East-meets-West gaming history. Collectors interested in a more modest set of extras can opt for the $74.99 edition, which features a steelbook case, commemorative poster, selected soundtrack, and a retro-inspired box.

Meanwhile, players looking for the essentials can pick up the standard edition of Gex Trilogy for $39.99, ensuring options for a wide range of budgets. The Gex Trilogy remaster offers several enhancements designed to modernize the experience while remaining true to the originals.

Players will enjoy the ability to save progress at any point within all three titles and utilize a rewind function in case of errors.

Both Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko have received updates for native 16:9 widescreen support and have been reworked to take full advantage of 360-degree analog controls—moving beyond the original eight-directional input. Gex may not be the most widely recognized mascot from the platformer era, but the series has amassed a loyal following over the years.

This release places the iconic gecko alongside other classic characters like Croc, Tomba, and Bubsy, each making their own comeback in recent years.

Limited Run Games continues to demonstrate a commitment to preserving gaming history for new and longtime fans, with the Gex Trilogy standing as a testament to this mission. Set for release on the Nintendo Switch eShop and other platforms on June 16, 2025, the Gex Trilogy is primed to rekindle nostalgia while appealing to a new generation of gamers.

For those interested in acquiring the limited collector’s editions featuring Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork, pre-orders are expected to open soon via the Limited Run Games website.
