Description

Chobits: Atashi Dake no Hito, the 2002 Game Boy Advance title based on the celebrated manga series by Clamp, has received a full English translation patch, finally making this cult-favorite visual novel accessible to fans outside of Japan.

Originally launched in Japan to coincide with a special clear blue Game Boy Advance bundle, Chobits: Atashi Dake no Hito adapts the story and characters of Clamp’s influential manga, which debuted in 2000.

The manga follows college student Hideki Motosuwa and his relationship with Chi, a humanoid computer referred to as a 'Persocom.' The series rapidly achieved international success, spawning a popular anime adaptation and multiple video game spinoffs.

However, Atashi Dake no Hito remained a Japan-only release — until now. The project to bring Chobits: Atashi Dake no Hito to a broader audience was spearheaded by translator Gopicolo, who recently published an English language patch.

This fan-made update translates all core in-game text, meaning English-speaking players can now experience the narrative as intended.

While the patch leaves the original mini-games in Japanese for the time being, the story and dialogue remain fully accessible, opening up one of Clamp’s more obscure adaptations to a global community. The Nintendo Game Boy Advance played host to numerous manga and anime-inspired games in the early 2000s, but language barriers often left many outside Japan unable to enjoy these unique experiences.

Chobits: Atashi Dake no Hito stands as a notable example — its limited release, Japan-exclusive status, and the enduring popularity of the source material have made it a sought-after title among collectors and fans of visual novels alike. Clamp, the all-female manga artist collective, is renowned for its body of work, including classics such as Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth, and xxxHolic.

The Chobits property, with its blend of romance, sci-fi, and timely commentary on humanity's relationship with technology, remains as relevant as ever in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and social connectivity. According to the translation team, efforts are ongoing to address untranslated mini-game components.

Meanwhile, the patch is already being cited as a significant achievement in fan translation circles, enabling appreciation of a title long restricted by language barriers. Chobits: Atashi Dake no Hito is available exclusively on Game Boy Advance hardware, and players interested in experiencing the title can apply Gopicolo’s translation patch, provided they have a legal backup of the original game.

With this translation, a pivotal chapter in Clamp’s multimedia legacy is finally open to the international Nintendo and manga community.
