Nintendo Switch 2: New Switch Online Menu UI and GameCube Expansion Pack Revealed
As anticipation mounts for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has begun sharing more information about what users can expect from its flagship online service and user interface.
Scheduled to launch in June, the next-generation hybrid console will not only continue the legacy of Nintendo Switch Online but also introduce significant updates, including a refresh of the menu UI and the addition of legacy GameCube titles to the service’s Expansion Pack.
According to details revealed on Nintendo’s official Japanese website, the Switch Online experience will seamlessly carry forward onto the Switch 2.
Upon booting up the new console, users will be greeted with a visually engaging “welcome” banner featuring classic Nintendo characters like Mario and his friends, setting an inviting tone for players old and new.
The navigation menu, featuring streamlined access to all major online features, remains prominently positioned along the side for quick and intuitive access from the HOME menu.
Notably, the dedicated online hub icon now precedes the traditional 'C' button icon for a more prominent placement, reflecting Nintendo’s continued focus on digital services.
A revamped profile section awaits users, showcasing familiar faces such as Mario, Link, and Isabelle, alongside expanded game listings and at-a-glance details on Switch Online subscriptions.
This enhanced layout aims to simplify account management and highlight key benefits for active subscribers, ensuring that members can easily access subscription status and explore new offerings.
One of the standout reveals is Nintendo’s graphic displaying the extensive library of retro games available through Switch Online.
In addition to the popular Famicom classics, the launch of the new platform will mark the first time GameCube titles are made available exclusively as part of the Switch 2 Expansion Pack.
This represents a major milestone for the ecosystem, expanding the breadth of playable classics for fans and collectors alike.
The Expansion Pack service, which was first introduced in late 2021 for the original Switch, requires an active membership and offers subscribers access to a growing archive of legacy Nintendo experiences.
Nintendo has been lauded for its ongoing commitment to honoring its rich catalog of games, as well as evolving the online experience for its global user base.
With over 36 million paid Nintendo Switch Online subscribers as of the company’s latest financial results, this strategic expansion positions Switch 2 as a future-proof platform for both new releases and nostalgic classics.
As the June launch draws closer, fans can look forward to further updates from Nintendo regarding the Switch 2, its online service enhancements, and the full list of classic GameCube games joining the Expansion Pack lineup at launch.
