Epic Games has officially detailed a suite of major upgrades for Fortnite on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing a host of technical and gameplay enhancements that set a new standard for portable battle royale experiences.

As the Nintendo Switch 2 promises improved performance and features that close the gap between handheld and console gaming, Fortnite’s next-gen update is poised to deliver one of the most polished iterations of the game on any portable platform. Fortnite, since its debut on Nintendo hardware, has been a mainstay on the Nintendo eShop and a highlight of multiple Nintendo Direct presentations, reaching millions of players worldwide.

Building on that legacy, Epic Games has published a comprehensive overview of the improvements coming to Nintendo Switch 2, demonstrating their commitment to both loyal players and technical progression. Enhanced Performance and Visuals On Nintendo Switch 2, Fortnite now benefits from significant performance upgrades.

Gamers will experience gameplay running at a smooth full 60 frames per second, a major leap over the original Switch’s capabilities.

Resolution sees a considerable boost as well—reaching 2176×1224 pixels while docked and 1600×900 when undocked—enabling crisper visuals whether on the go or at home. Players can expect greater view distances, enhanced texture fidelity, improved shadow rendering, and advanced water effects, making for a more immersive and visually striking world.

Clothing physics will now be enabled, and the advanced replay system gives players tools to relive and rewatch their best moments from different perspectives. Modernized Controls and Features One of the standout new features comes with the introduction of mouse control support, arriving via patch 36.00 and available starting June 7.

With compatibility confirmed for the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con 2 controllers and the Pro Controller, users can choose their preferred method of play.

Epic Games also reaffirmed that standard Nintendo Switch controllers are fully supported on the new hardware. Additional quality-of-life improvements include instant video clip capture via the hardware’s Capture button, in-game voice chat for squads of up to four via GameChat, and a technical lift for enthusiasts with a full 'desktop' renderer, high-detail geometry, distance field ambient occlusion in docked mode, and advanced visual effects like shadow casting point lights. While the popular 'Save the World' mode will not be accessible on Nintendo Switch 2, all other content and modes are fully supported.

As a bonus, every Fortnite player logging in for the first time on Nintendo Switch 2 will receive the exclusive Wishing Star Emote, available until March 31, 2026. With these advancements, Fortnite on Nintendo Switch 2 reaffirms Epic Games' investment in delivering a top-tier battle royale experience.
