Final Fantasy VII Revelation Spring 2027 Release: Square Enix Confirms Final Remake Chapter for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series and PC

Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, slated for release in spring 2027.

The company confirmed the title will launch across major platforms — PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox PC — coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII.

Overview

Final Fantasy VII Revelation positions itself as the climactic conclusion to the ongoing remake project.

The publisher describes a sprawling, planet-spanning finale that sends Cloud Strife and his allies aboard the iconic airship Highwind as they confront apocalyptic threats and their nemesis, Sephiroth.

Story and World

According to Square Enix’s announcement, a meteor scars the sky, colossal planetary guardians called Weapons emerge, and global conflict threatens total annihilation.

Players will be able to pilot the Highwind in a seamlessly connected open world: drop from the ship via parachute and transition directly from air to land.

The game expands the playable world with newly introduced regions, including a lush, humid Mideel and the architecturally distinct Wutai.

Characters and Combat

The remake’s signature hybrid combat — blending real-time action with command-based Tactical Mode — returns and is described as more polished and expansive.

New playable members are confirmed: Vincent Valentine, voiced in English by Matt Mercer, and Cid Highwind, voiced in English by J.

Michael Tatum.

Square Enix framed Vincent as a gunslinger who vows to continue fighting until Sephiroth is defeated, while Cid embraces his identity as an airship pilot and combatant known for lance-based, dragoon-style techniques.

New systems and enemies

Revelation introduces a new outfit-based system called FITS, which changes characters’ combat styles by equipping different outfits that unlock unique abilities and movesets inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs such as Warrior and Black Mage.

Weapons — planetary guardians awakened to defend against Meteor — are listed as key new enemy types players will face.

Platforms and release window

Square Enix confirms a simultaneous release across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox PC) in spring 2027.

What this means for fans

Final Fantasy VII Revelation aims to close the remake saga on a grand scale, expanding exploration, party dynamics and strategic combat.
