Square Enix’s acclaimed reimagining of a classic RPG is headed to new hardware as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade prepares for its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2.
This highly anticipated release, officially announced during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, brings the groundbreaking remake — first launched for PlayStation platforms — to Nintendo’s next-generation console, offering fans the most complete version to date.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been widely recognized as a benchmark in how to successfully modernize a beloved title.
Developed by Square Enix, the game skillfully updates the iconic world of Final Fantasy VII with dynamic new gameplay mechanics, enhanced visuals, and a dramatically expanded narrative, all while faithfully preserving the spirit of the original 1997 classic.
Nintendo Switch 2 players will receive the comprehensive Intergrade version, which not only delivers the core storyline featuring Cloud Strife and his companions but also includes the Intermission DLC episode starring fan-favorite Yuffie Kisaragi.
In this additional content — previously offered as downloadable content on other platforms — Yuffie’s journey runs parallel to Cloud’s within the city of Midgar, adding further depth to the story.
This bonus content comes at no additional charge for Switch 2 users, ensuring their experience represents the definitive first chapter of Square Enix’s planned Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will release for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026, retailing at $40.
The game will be available both via the Nintendo eShop and as a physical Game Key Card.
Digital pre-orders are already open, providing eager fans the opportunity to secure their adventure well ahead of launch.
Looking further ahead, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — the anticipated sequel and second entry in the Remake trilogy — is also slated for a future Switch 2 release.
Details on its launch date, as well as the third and final installment, remain forthcoming.
The September 2025 Nintendo Direct featured a wealth of additional news for Switch 2 owners.
Highlights include confirmation of four new Mega Evolutions for Pokémon Legends: Z-A alongside the Mega Dimension DLC; a Spring 2026 release window for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream; and the unveiling of Resident Evil Requiem for Switch 2, which will launch simultaneously with Switch 2 ports of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.
Square Enix’s commitment to bringing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to Nintendo’s latest platform marks a significant milestone in the series’ history, ensuring that both longtime fans and new players can experience this iconic journey in its most polished form to date.
