Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake Overview – Switch 2 Release Date, Demo, and Silent Hill f Collaboration Revealed

Koei Tecmo has officially released a comprehensive overview trailer for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, confirming key launch details for Nintendo Switch 2.

This newly remade edition of the cult-classic Japanese horror title is scheduled for release on March 12th, 2024, with an early demo arriving a week prior on March 5th. First announced as a complete overhaul of the original PlayStation 2 hit, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake brings the atmospheric terror and ghostly encounters of the Fatal Frame (also known as Project Zero) franchise to new hardware.

Developed by Koei Tecmo, the title features enhanced visuals and modernized gameplay tailored for the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2. In the just-released overview trailer, Koei Tecmo unveiled that players will get hands-on with the game early via a demo launching on March 5th.

Although the publisher has yet to share specific details about the demo’s content, it has confirmed that save data from the demo can be transferred to the full game upon release.

This allows fans to seamlessly continue their progress when Crimson Butterfly Remake debuts on Switch 2 eShop and at retail on March 12th, 2024. In addition to the demo news, Koei Tecmo revealed an exciting special collaboration with Konami’s upcoming title Silent Hill f.

As part of this cross-franchise partnership, a free downloadable costume inspired by Silent Hill f will be available for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake players as launch DLC.

The publisher noted in a statement that "a unique collaboration between two iconic Japanese horror series will offer players complimentary costumes via downloadable content, with more specifics to be shared soon." It follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu as they explore a haunted, deserted village plagued by hostile spirits.

The gameplay centers around the iconic Camera Obscura, the supernatural device that enables players to repel and capture ghosts.
