Famitsu has released the latest Japanese software sales rankings, offering a detailed look at this week’s top-selling video game titles across the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5 platforms.
The sales results, pulled from physical and select digital storefronts, spotlight the enduring dominance of Nintendo’s premier franchises and introduce notable new releases into the market.
At the forefront, "Mario Kart World" on the Nintendo Switch led the chart with an impressive 38,026 units sold this week, bringing its cumulative sales to 1,732,435.
This installment reaffirms the Mario Kart franchise’s unwavering popularity in Japan, with Nintendo Switch hardware continuing to see robust attach rates thanks to major evergreen titles.
Taking the runner-up position, the newly released "Borderlands 4" on PlayStation 5 debuted with 13,029 units sold, capturing early interest from fans of the action-RPG shooter series.
In third, "Donkey Kong Bananza" on Nintendo Switch 2 continues to demonstrate impressive legs, adding 10,577 units this week for a total of 307,141 units sold since launch.
Other significant performers include "Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar," securing fourth on the Nintendo Switch chart with 8,547 units, further building on its expanding total of 68,638 sold copies.
PlayStation 5’s "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2" rounded out the top five, adding 7,041 units to reach a total of 116,527.
Notably, the cross-platform favorite "Minecraft" on Nintendo Switch once again made the top 10, moving 5,539 units and bringing its overall tally to a staggering 4,001,857 units, underlining its consistent appeal.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 iterations of classic and new titles remained highly visible.
"Super Mario Party Jamboree" continued to deliver strong results both on the original Nintendo Switch and as a bundled edition for Switch 2, with weekly figures of 3,320 and 3,672 units, respectively.
Similarly, "Kirby and the Forgotten Land" saw steady momentum on Nintendo Switch 2, with 3,553 units sold, contributing to the already significant reach of the Kirby franchise.
"Animal Crossing: New Horizons," another perennial bestseller, added 3,755 units this week on Nintendo Switch, further solidifying its position among Japan’s top-selling console titles, now totaling over 8.2 million units sold in Japan alone.
The longstanding presence of titles such as "Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate" (2,096 units sold this week, topping 5.7 million total), "Ring Fit Adventure," and "Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics" underscores Nintendo’s unique ability to foster long-term software engagement across multiple generations of hardware.
On the PlayStation 5 side, franchises like "Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater" and "Monster Hunter Wilds" maintained strong chart placements, reflecting their continued relevance in the competitive Japanese marketplace.
According to Famitsu’s verified retail sales data, the Japanese market shows ongoing enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 titles, buoyed by both enduring classics and exciting new releases.
