The Japanese video game market continues to showcase the strong influence of Nintendo hardware and first-party titles, as demonstrated by the latest software sales data released by Famitsu.

During this past sales week, the Nintendo Switch 2 platform outpaced competitors with a slate of high-performing games, revealing the sustained popularity of established franchises and recent releases alike. At the forefront of the charts, 'Mario Kart World' for Nintendo Switch 2 raced ahead, securing the number one position with 134,900 copies sold during the week, pushing its cumulative total to an impressive 917,466 units.

The ongoing success of the Mario Kart series emphasizes Nintendo’s dominance in the family and party game segment. Following the leader, 'Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time' for Nintendo Switch maintained momentum, selling 11,217 units and reaching a total of 123,121.

The latest entry from Level-5’s charming life simulation franchise continues to draw players with its blend of adventure and RPG elements across the Switch ecosystem. Marvelous’ 'Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma,' also for Switch, recorded 9,724 additional sales, lifting its total to 55,427.

The franchise’s dedication to combining farming and action-RPG gameplay has garnered consistent interest among Japanese players. Legacy titles on Nintendo Switch showed enduring strength as well.

'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' added 6,460 units this week, boosting its cumulative sales well past 6.3 million units in Japan alone.

Similarly, 'Minecraft' for Switch maintained its perennial popularity with 5,916 weekly sales and a staggering lifetime figure of over 3.9 million units. Recent releases for Nintendo Switch 2 are already showing strong engagement.

For example, 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' and 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' each entered the top ten, signaling robust interest in updated classics.

Collectively, both editions sold over 8,800 units for the week, indicating that the Zelda franchise remains a major draw on new hardware platforms. Other notable performances include 'Super Mario Party Jamboree' (5,215 weekly sales; 1,322,389 total), 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' (4,209 weekly; 8,145,825 total), and 'Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate'—with the latter remaining a fixture in the top sellers’ list, amassing over 5.7 million units since release. On the PlayStation front, 'Elden Ring Nightreign' for PS5 garnered 5,126 sales (nearing 60,000 total PS5 units), while 'Astro Bot' contributed 2,856 to its total of 78,656.

Capcom’s 'Monster Hunter Wilds' added 2,211 weekly PS5 sales, contributing to its cumulative 816,454 units. The chart highlights the continued supremacy of Nintendo’s catalogue and platform strategy.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games accounted for the majority of top-performing titles, reiterating the hardware's diverse appeal and third-party support.
