Description

In the latest weekly Japanese hardware and software sales charts published by Famitsu, Nintendo once again demonstrates its significant hold on the market, with the Nintendo Switch 2 leading the charge.

The report provides a comprehensive view of both current and previous week's sales data, underscoring Nintendo's consistent dominance alongside noteworthy software releases. According to data released by Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch 2 emerged as Japan’s top-selling gaming platform for the week, moving an impressive 46,403 units.

This marks an increase from the previous week, when 41,957 units were sold.

The Switch OLED and Switch Lite followed with 12,683 and 8,285 units sold, respectively.

Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation 5 recorded 22,247 sales, with the PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro trailing at 7,315 and 2,133 units, respectively.

In comparison, Xbox Series X sold 98 units, while its Digital Edition and the Series S reported just 37 and 25 units sold, respectively.

The PlayStation 4, despite its age, managed 14 units. These figures paint a clear picture of consumer preference in Japan, with the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, particularly the latest Switch 2, maintaining their appeal among Japanese gamers.

Famitsu’s charts provide context by noting that last week’s numbers were only slightly lower for most platforms, showing a steady demand across successive releases. Turning to software, Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 continues to dominate, selling 38,483 copies this week and reaching an impressive cumulative total of 1,694,409 units.

Following closely is Nintendo's newly released Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots, which debuted strongly across both Switch and PS5 platforms—35,139 copies on Switch and 16,075 copies on PS5.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar for Nintendo Switch also posted robust numbers, selling 13,505 copies this week for a running total of 60,091 units. Other notable titles include Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 (Switch), Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2), and Super Robot Wars Y (Switch).

On the PlayStation side, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion made mark with strong entries in the top 10 sales.

Minecraft also remains ever-popular, adding 6,410 units sold on Switch to its staggering lifetime total of nearly 4 million copies in Japan. A spokesperson for Famitsu summarized the ongoing trends in a statement, saying that Nintendo and its Switch consoles continue to drive hardware sales in the domestic market.

Software sales are similarly robust, with new releases and evergreen franchises contributing to another strong week for the gaming industry in Japan. For developers and publishers, Japan’s hardware and software sales charts remain essential barometers for market performance.

With Switch 2 setting the pace and several anticipated releases on the horizon, the coming weeks look set to continue this momentum—solidifying Nintendo’s position as a leading force in Japanese gaming.
