Famitsu, Japan's leading gaming publication, has published its most recent hardware and software sales figures for the week, showcasing Nintendo's ongoing dominance in the Japanese video game market.
The newly released Nintendo Switch 2 continues to capture strong demand, significantly outpacing its competitors, while popular software titles like Mario Kar World and Donkey Kong Bananza maintain their momentum at the top of the charts.
According to the latest data from Famitsu, Nintendo Switch 2 recorded 35,359 units sold this week, leading the hardware segment by a substantial margin.
The Switch OLED and Switch Lite models followed with 9,922 and 5,556 units sold respectively.
Sony's PlayStation 5, including both standard and Pro editions, trailed behind with 4,036 and 1,603 units sold.
Xbox Series hardware once again recorded minimal sales, with Series X and Series S each moving just 119 units, and the Series X Digital Edition selling 50 units.
The PlayStation 4, now in its twilight years, sold only 13 units over the same period.
To provide broader context, last week's hardware numbers saw a significant surge in Switch 2 sales, reaching 179,641 units, coinciding with major new releases and increased consumer demand.
Other Switch models and PlayStation 5 also exhibited higher sales figures, highlighting the typical ebb and flow in the Japanese hardware market based on software launches and promotional activity.
On the software front, Mario Kar World for Nintendo Switch 2 remains the best-selling game, with 30,202 copies sold this week, pushing its cumulative total to over 1.62 million units.
Donkey Kong Bananza stands as another strong performer with weekly sales of 8,424, bringing total sales to 275,679 copies.
The ever-popular Minecraft on Nintendo Switch continues its remarkable run, adding 7,053 units to a lifetime total nearing 4 million sold in Japan alone.
Classic titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons keep delivering robust numbers with 5,823 and 4,222 units sold this week, respectively.
Other top sellers include Nintendo Switch Sports, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and exciting debuts such as Tamagotchi Plaza.
These figures highlight Nintendo's comprehensive strength across both hardware and software, with first-party titles occupying the majority of the top-ten rankings.
A spokesperson from Nintendo Japan commented that customer enthusiasm for new hardware releases and franchise expansions continues to drive strong sales, reinforcing the company's leadership in the region.
As the Nintendo Switch 2 builds on the legacy of its predecessor, the platform's robust game library, continued support from developers, and consistent sales momentum are key contributors to its success.
