The weekly Japanese video game hardware and software sales rankings have been released by Famitsu, one of Japan’s most respected gaming industry publications.
The Nintendo Switch 2 once again dominates the charts, showcasing the brand’s continued strength in the home gaming market.
As of the latest report, the Nintendo Switch 2 recorded impressive sales of 71,885 units, significantly leading its competitors.
Its closest rivals, the Nintendo Switch OLED and Switch Lite, sold 6,166 and 4,828 units respectively.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 sold 4,260 units, with the PlayStation 5 Pro following at 2,064 units and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition at 938 units.
In contrast, Microsoft’s Xbox Series S registered 118 units, with the Xbox Series X Digital Edition and standard Xbox Series X seeing 75 and 54 units sold, respectively.
Legacy consoles like the PlayStation 4 saw minimal activity at 30 units.
For context, the previous week saw an even stronger performance from the Switch 2 with 161,021 units sold, while the Switch OLED and Switch Lite reached 6,425 and 6,072 units, respectively.
Other platforms maintained similar figures, with only slight shifts in momentum across the board.
These numbers reinforce Nintendo’s consistent appeal in Japan, particularly as it continues transitioning to new hardware with the Switch 2.
On the software side, Nintendo’s iconic franchises continue to shine.
'Mario Kart World' for the Switch 2 led the top ten with 65,853 units sold this week, adding to a remarkable lifetime total of 1,365,072 copies.
Other high performers included 'Tamagotchi Plaza' on Nintendo Switch, which sold 13,736 units this week for a cumulative 140,198, and the newly launched 'Patapon 1 + 2 Replay' debuting with 8,871 units.
'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,' now one of the best-selling Switch titles ever, continues its impressive run, bringing its cumulative sales to over 6.37 million.
'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' also maintains its perennial popularity, reaching an astounding 8.16 million lifetime sales in Japan.
Several other Nintendo titles, such as 'Super Mario Party Jamboree' (5,478 units sold this week) and 'Minecraft' (5,022 units), demonstrate Nintendo's robust first-party and third-party ecosystem on both new and legacy hardware.
Among non-Nintendo titles, 'Death Stranding 2' on PlayStation 5 secured eighth place with 4,162 units this week, bringing its cumulative total to 87,597.
Meanwhile, games like 'Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time' have achieved lasting traction, reaching over 144,758 lifetime units.
Famitsu’s latest charts underscore the enduring dominance of Nintendo platforms in the Japanese gaming market, with Switch 2 surging ahead in hardware sales and its flagship franchises driving robust software sales.
These figures offer key insights into current industry trends and consumer preferences in one of the world's most influential gaming markets.
