Nintendo Switch 2 Leads Japan’s Weekly Hardware Sales as Mario Kart World and Demon Slayer Top Charts

The latest Famitsu data reveals a strong showing for Nintendo in Japan’s hardware and software markets this past week.

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to maintain impressive momentum, with sales figures confirming its dominance among current-generation consoles, while major Nintendo titles and newly released software continue to captivate Japanese gamers. According to the numbers provided by Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch 2 led Japan’s hardware sales with 62,733 units sold for the week.

This puts it well ahead of other platforms, following a previous week’s impressive 92,013 units.

The Switch OLED model ranked second among the Nintendo family, moving 15,506 units, a significant rise from its 7,344 sales the previous week.

The portable-first Switch Lite followed with 5,505 units sold (up from 4,706).

The classic original Switch also continued steady performance with 2,626 units purchased, a slight increase from 2,593 the previous week. PlayStation hardware held steady but trailed behind Nintendo’s current-gen platforms.

The PlayStation 5 sold 4,426 units, slightly up from 4,093 in the prior week.

The PlayStation 5 Pro moved 1,884 units, while the PS5 Digital Edition contributed another 831 units.

In the legacy console segment, the PlayStation 4 recorded 19 units sold. Microsoft’s Xbox Series S and Series X continue to face significant headwinds in the Japanese market, with Series S selling 155 units and Series X just 78.

The Digital Edition of Series X accounted for 38 units. On the software front, the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms dominated the top of the charts.

At number one, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 for Nintendo Switch debuted with 54,491 copies sold.

Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2 continued its blockbuster run, adding 51,544 units for an impressive cumulative total of 1,445,628.

Donkey Kong Bananza moved 25,199 copies this week, bringing its lifetime total to 207,055.

Hololive Holo’s Hanafuda, also new this week for Nintendo Switch, debuted with 16,200 sold.

For PlayStation 5, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 accounted for 12,351 new sales. Further down the charts, Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, bundled with Jamboree TV, added 10,250 units, reaching 28,419 overall.

Notable among new releases, Castlevania Advance Collection debuted on Switch with 9,101 sales.

Perennial best-sellers Minecraft and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch continued their tremendous runs, having now moved 3,955,307 and 6,398,596 lifetime units, respectively.

Tamagotchi Plaza rounded out the top 10 with 5,574 units for the week, now standing at a total of 161,597. A spokesperson for Famitsu summarized, “Nintendo continues to lead both hardware and software sales in Japan, with newly released and evergreen titles driving sustained consumer demand.” These latest sales figures once again highlight Nintendo’s significant market presence and the strong appeal of its franchises within Japan.

With a robust lineup on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED, and Nintendo Switch 2, industry observers continue to look to Nintendo as a major force in the Japanese gaming space.
