The latest Famitsu Japan hardware and software sales data tells a clear story: the Nintendo Switch 2 is unmistakably the leader in the Japanese gaming market.
Following its recent launch, Nintendo’s newest hybrid console has continued to command impressive sales, outpacing competitors and driving robust software performance across the board.
According to data published by Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch 2 moved 153,205 units this week, reinforcing its place atop the Japanese hardware charts for consecutive weeks.
For comparison, last week saw the hardware reach an enormous 947,931 units sold, a figure buoyed by strong launch demand and positive reception from both enthusiasts and longtime Nintendo fans.
Elsewhere in the hardware market, Sony’s PlayStation 5 trailed with 9,612 units sold, followed by the Nintendo Switch Lite (5,485) and Switch OLED model (5,447).
Sony’s upgraded PS5 Pro saw 3,125 units sold.
Legacy models, including the standard Switch (2,387) and PS5 Digital Edition (1,392), remained in demand but posted lower numbers.
Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Xbox Series S and Series X registered 125 and 102 units, respectively, highlighting the continuing market challenge facing Xbox platforms in Japan.
Only a modest 22 PS4s were sold, indicating the natural decline of previous-generation hardware.
Among software, Mario Kart World for Switch 2 emerged as the clear top performer, selling 134,900 copies this week and amassing a cumulative total of 917,466 units since launch.
The title’s robust performance signals the continued strength of Nintendo’s first-party franchises.
Other Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 titles dominated the top 10, such as Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time (11,217 weekly sales, 123,121 total), Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (9,724/55,427), and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (6,460/6,347,853 lifetime sales).
Popular evergreen titles such as Minecraft (5,916 weekly sales, 3,913,098 lifetime) and Super Mario Party Jamboree (5,215/1,322,389 lifetime) also maintained significant presence.
On the PlayStation front, Elden Ring Nightreign for PS5 earned 5,126 sales this week, reaching a total of 59,948 units.
Notably, Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo Switch 2 Editions) posted solid launches, with weekly sales of 4,409 and 4,408, respectively.
In the legacy column, Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch continues its astounding performance, bringing its lifetime sales in Japan to 8,145,825 units.
