Japan's gaming industry continues to showcase robust sales dynamics, with the Nintendo Switch 2 dominating the most recent hardware charts according to the latest Famitsu report.

Offering a detailed look at the performance of key platforms and top-selling games, this week's figures further highlight Nintendo's strong position in the marketplace. The Nintendo Switch 2 led all competitors by a significant margin, posting 140,026 units sold over the past week.

Its ongoing popularity demonstrates Nintendo's success in extending its hardware lifecycle and engaging both dedicated players and newcomers.

Following the flagship model, the Switch Lite accounted for 5,212 units, and the Switch OLED recorded 5,110 units sold.

In comparison, the PlayStation 5 reported 3,581 units, while the new PS5 Pro and PS5 Digital Edition reached 1,676 and 749 units respectively.

Xbox Series platforms remained consistent but continued to trail behind, with the Series S moving 107 units, the Series X Digital Edition selling 47 units, and the standard Series X at 37 units.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 sold 28 units, underscoring the generational shift among Japanese gamers. A week-over-week analysis reveals an overall downward trend stemming from the prior week's launch window surge, particularly for the Nintendo Switch 2, which previously achieved 153,205 units sold.

While PlayStation 5's numbers decreased from last week's 9,612 units, the Switch Lite, OLED, and older base model remained on a steady trajectory.

These results affirm the strong and sustained customer interest in Nintendo's hardware ecosystem, particularly as new titles enhance the appeal of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessors. On the software side, Mario Kart World for the Nintendo Switch 2 secured the top spot with an outstanding 122,578 copies sold just this week, pushing its lifetime sales past the one million mark at 1,044,044.

The game’s continued popularity highlights both Nintendo's franchise power and the enduring appeal of local multiplayer experiences in Japan.

Other notable releases include Raidou Remastered, debuting across multiple platforms: Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

The remastered classic tallied 21,146 units on the Nintendo Switch, 19,248 on the PlayStation 5, and 5,258 on the PlayStation 4, reflecting solid interest across major contemporary consoles. Additional highlights from the charts feature Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time for Nintendo Switch, reaching 7,504 weekly sales and a cumulative 130,625 copies.

Meanwhile, Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition) and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition) held strong, reporting 5,887 and 4,861 units sold respectively this week.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an ever-present staple, continues its remarkable run on Nintendo Switch, while Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma remains a popular choice among RPG enthusiasts. These figures, sourced directly from Famitsu, underscore Nintendo’s current leadership in Japan—both in hardware momentum and software engagement.

The data not only charts sales volume but also points to broader trends in player preferences and market dynamics, reaffirming Nintendo’s integral role in shaping the Japanese gaming landscape.
