The Japanese gaming market continues to showcase its preference for Nintendo hardware, as the latest Famitsu sales charts reveal another dominant week for the Nintendo Switch 2.

With competition from the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series hardware, the Switch family—including the Switch OLED and Switch Lite—has maintained strong momentum, reinforcing Nintendo's enduring presence in Japan's lucrative game industry. For the latest reporting period ending this week, Famitsu data shows the Nintendo Switch 2 leading the pack with 46,842 units sold, outpacing its nearest competitors.

The Switch OLED follows with 15,088 units, while the PlayStation 5 lags behind at 10,085 units.

Standard Switch consoles accounted for 1,787 units.

Meanwhile, Xbox platforms continued their modest run in Japan, with the Series X Digital Edition selling 142 units, Series S at 62, and Series X at 33.

The PlayStation 4, despite being a previous generation platform, still saw a minor 17 units sold. Comparatively, last week's figures demonstrate consistent Nintendo leadership, with the Switch 2 at 44,439 units, Switch OLED at 15,075, Switch Lite at 7,024, and PlayStation 5 at 20,617.

PlayStation 5 managed strong showings with Ghost of Yotei selling 26,776 units (for a total of 146,972), and the newly released Battlefield 6 debuting at 23,292 units.

Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 collection sold 20,083 copies, adding to its current total of 68,348. Additional highlights include Little Nightmares 3, which launched across multiple platforms.

Minecraft for Switch demonstrated its staying power, selling another 5,002 units for a staggering accumulated total of 4,023,112 in Japan. Famitsu’s latest sales charts affirm Nintendo's robust hardware and software ecosystem in Japan.

The sustained dominance of the Switch 2, combined with blockbuster software releases like Mario Kart World and Super Mario Galaxy, cements Nintendo's pivotal role in steering the Japanese gaming market.

As the industry evolves, the Switch family’s enduring appeal and the ongoing success of first-party exclusives remain key drivers of Nintendo’s continued momentum.
